Saint-Maurice-Crillat can be explored through specific travel interests: the Belvédère de la Ronde loop trail, the cycling route at Col de la Joux, and the heritage surrounding Saint Maurice. This lets you plan around outdoor activities, finding your way around the region, or historical connections. Fruitière le Chalet Bio de Saint Mo adds a specific local product to these themes.

Hiking the Belvédère de la Ronde loop trail

The Belvédère de la Ronde loop trail is an easy 12 km hike with 240 metres of ascent. It starts at 9 Chemin du Fer À Cheval in Saint-Maurice-Crillat. The easy rating, distance and elevation gain describe different aspects of the hike. So when planning the loop, consider the ascent as well as the route length.

Cycling route and Col de la Joux

The Col de la Joux – Saint-Maurice Crillat cycling route is 10.4 km long and has 561 metres of ascent. Compared with the hike, it is shorter but has more ascent. This compares distance and elevation gain; because these are different activities, it does not provide a shared difficulty rating. The Col de la Joux, also called Col de Saint-Maurice Crillat, is one of the three official mountain passes in the Jura département. It lies between the Pays des Lacs and the Haut-Jura. The route to Col de la Joux can be reached from Clairvaux-les-Lacs via the D28 in the direction of Saint-Maurice-Crillat. In winter, the Col is closed; the Grandvaux cross-country ski trails then take the place of the road. Bear this seasonal closure in mind if you are planning to make the Col a destination on your cycling route.

Heritage around Saint Maurice

The Saint Maurice heritage site includes 18 fountains; this number should be confirmed on site. The church associated with the site has a nave dating from the 17th century. The Pierre d’Autel provides another historical clue: in 1545, it marked the boundary between the holdings of the Carthusians of Bonlieu and the co-lordship of Saint Maurice. This brings together a church dating and a specific date from the history of local lordship. The Pierre d’Autel may have successively served a Celtic religious, Christian and finally administrative purpose. Two things should be distinguished here: the 1545 marking is a historical boundary reference; the sequence of purposes remains a possible interpretation.
