The Belaine runs through Foucherans in a valley. The church and former workers’ housing estate provide historical points of reference; walking routes and activities by the water offer other focuses. If you are planning a stay, you can consider the architectural history, routes and events separately.

The church and former workers’ housing estate

The church in Foucherans was built in the 16th century in the Romanesque style. It regained its original appearance during a renovation in 2001. Inside are two valuable paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. One of them has been classified as a historic monument since 1958. Architectural history and works of art from different centuries thus come together in one place.

Another historical focal point is the workers’ housing estate of the former ironworks. It was built between 1890 and 1914. Its buildings have three storeys, including a basement level. These dimensions help place the buildings as a subject in their own right alongside the church. The designation as a housing estate of the former ironworks points to its industrial past.

The Vieux château is not open to visitors. Take this restriction into account when planning, and check its visitor status again locally before including a visit in your plans.

Walking routes and time by the water

The 2018 edition of the municipal map shows a walking route through Foucherans with 16 stops. It is listed as 5.5 kilometres long and taking 1 hour 30 minutes. As route details may have changed, check the current route and estimated duration before planning. This lets you use the stated duration as a guide for your day without treating it as a guaranteed walking time.

The municipal walking route, updated in July 2026, also includes a visit to the main building of the military camp. Check in advance under what conditions this visit is possible. The Foucherans fitness trail runs around the pond and the animal park. Check the trail’s condition and layout before using it.

Fishing at the Etang communal is free for residents of Foucherans. Visitors may take part only when accompanied by a resident. The rules were updated in April 2026; before planning a fishing visit, make sure you know the current participation requirements.

The Etang de Foucherans is suitable for family walks. Motor vehicles must be left in the designated car park and may not be driven on the rest of the grounds. At the maize maze, there is a shaded, equipped picnic area between the mazes. As its facilities may change with the season, check the arrangements for your visit in advance.

Events and refreshments

The Foire de l'Escargot is one of Foucherans’s annual highlights in March. If you would like to plan your stay around this event, check the dates for the relevant year. This gives you a concrete basis for planning without assuming a specific event day.

The 2026 events programme lists food stalls at the Marchés au Clair de Lune from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Offerings include grilled dishes, French fries, hot dogs and other light refreshments. The markets also bring together local artisans and producers, as well as a fruit and vegetable seller; participants may vary. As the event dates are seasonal, check the dates and programme for the relevant period before visiting.
