Lure offers several distinct ways to plan a stay: a natural area in the heart of the city, a forest trail on the slopes and a cultural programme with its own season. There is also a historic city trail and places connected with Lure’s development. When planning your trip, you can consider these themes separately: time by the water, paths through the forest, an event or exploring the city’s history each bring a different focus.

Nature and activities in Lure

In the heart of Lure is the Base de la Saline, a natural area with a pond. There, you can go canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and ride a fun boat. The operating hours for activities at the Base de la Saline may vary. If you’re planning a specific water activity, check before your visit whether it will be available on your travel dates.

The Parcours Vitae is a 1,840 m-long forest trail covering 8.5 ha on the slopes of Lure. The length and area describe two different aspects of the site: one figure refers to the trail, the other to the grounds. The site includes walking paths and a picnic area. English oaks, lime trees, beeches and hornbeams characterise the vegetation. When planning, you can therefore decide whether you’d prefer an outing by the pond or a forest setting with paths and a place to picnic.

Cultural offerings and events

The Auditorium de Lure is a venue for the performing arts. It regularly hosts theatre, music and other performing arts events. The cultural season runs from September to June; individual dates vary. If a particular event is important to your trip, check in advance which dates fall during your stay.

Another cultural activity is the escape game “La menace cachée”: its puzzles draw on the history and sights of Lure. Check availability before visiting. The M.U.R., a cultural installation, is located behind the Espace Cotin and next to the Auditorium de Lure. This gives you a range of cultural experiences: a seasonal events programme, a puzzle game and an installation at a specific location.

City history and notable places

The historic city trail covers 24 significant elements of the city’s history. Lure’s architectural heritage also reflects the city’s history and development, so you can explore the city through both the trail and its architecture. The Quartier de la Font is Lure’s oldest district. In the district, the abbey’s landscaped park provides a setting for walks. Lure’s sub-prefecture is located in a former Benedictine abbey; opposite it lies the Étang de la Font. Georges Colomb is another figure associated with the city’s cultural history: he was born in Lure and is also known as Christophe.
