La Basse-Vaivre combines a linear village layout with waterways and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel in La Basse-Vaivre, you can plan your trip around the themes that interest you: local history, walks in the forest, or cycling and fishing.

Water and Landscape

The Coney forms the municipal boundary to the north and west. The Ru des Prés flows through the municipality and joins the Coney upstream of the former Moulin des Bruaux. Both the Coney and the canal run below the main road. La Basse-Vaivre lies in the Pays d’Amance landscape area, formed by the upper Saône catchment. The waterways play different roles in the landscape: the Coney marks two sections of the boundary, while the Ru des Prés flows through the municipality and joins it.

Village Layout and History

The houses in this street village are grouped along the D 207 departmental road, which runs through the village. La Basse-Vaivre began as a forest-clearing settlement. The manuscript ms 902, dating from 1567–1572, refers to the place as a new village.

Historic Houses and Water Structures

A lintel dated 1723 has been preserved at 29, rue Principale. The house at the same address also contains a reused dressed stone with a bas-relief of a face. The residence at 14, rue Principale has a remarkable unrendered stone façade facing the street. The addresses identify two different details: a dated lintel and a stone with a face relief at one address, and a street-facing façade at the other.

Water-related structures are also part of the village scene. A former washhouse stands at the junction of the main road and the Route de Seilles. A washing trough was built at the Fontaine de l’Est in 1876. The Fontaine des Carelles is on the Chemin de la Patouillette.

Walking, Cycling and Fishing

Walks in the La Basse-Vaivre forest offer peace and nature, making it a place to stroll and unwind. Trails and conditions can vary by season. A forest walk differs from the cycling and fishing options, which are tied to specific routes or a section of the Coney.

The V50–La Voie Bleue cycle route runs from Pont du Bois via La Basse Vaivre to Ormoy. Nearby, in the municipality of Passavant-la-Rochère, the approximately 3.5 km-long Voie des Tuileries was created. Its connection gives cyclists access to La Basse-Vaivre, which is listed as a site of tourist interest. Check access regulations before setting out. Conditions on the Voie des Tuileries, as well as conditions and signage on the V50, may change.

The public fishing stretch of the Coney runs from Selles to the bridge at La Basse-Vaivre. Current departmental regulations determine access and the applicable fishing rules.
