Mondon: Discover hiking and views
Accommodation in Mondon
In Mondon, various hiking and cycling routes meet at a viewpoint overlooking the Vosges SaĂ´noises. The trails vary in length, route and type of experience: from a circular hike rated very easy to a multi-day long-distance trail. When choosing, you can first consider whether you would like to explore a circular route, a longer hiking trail or a cycling route.
Hiking: along the Ognon or through the forest
The Bords de l’Ognon circular hike passes through Mondon and runs mostly along the banks of the Ognon. It is described as very easy and suitable for families. With its circular route, the hike is for anyone looking for a trail with a clearly defined route, rather than planning a multi-day long-distance hike. The banks of the Ognon account for much of the route.
The circular route is 15.3 kilometres long. The elevation gain and loss are each listed as 199 metres. These details offer several points to consider when planning: in addition to its difficulty rating and suitability for families, you can also take the distance and elevation into account. This makes it possible to compare the circular hike with routes of a different kind without equating its features with those of a long-distance trail.
Another hiking option is the La Croix de Rognon loop, which also passes through Mondon. On the ascent to or descent from Mondon, the trail runs through the forest along the “sentier du pendu”. The route thus combines a passage through the village with a specifically named stretch through the forest.
After passing through Mondon, the trail goes past the war memorial towards the “Belvédère”, then follows a small road through the forest to the D486. Take care on this section. It is advisable to check the route of this section again before setting out.
Long-distance trail and cycling routes
For a multi-day hike, consider the GR® de Pays des 7 Rivières: it passes through Mondon and is listed as a four-day route covering 82.2 kilometres. Along the way, forests and fields alternate with villages featuring architectural heritage. This long-distance trail therefore differs from the Bords de l’Ognon circular hike both in duration and distance.
Two cycling routes also pass through Mondon. The Grand Tour des Deux Vallées Vertes offers nature and cultural experiences in the Deux Vallées Vertes area. The Grand Tour sportif du Pays de Rougemont also passes through the village and offers a way to discover the area's tourist attractions. Their respective focuses can help you choose: nature and cultural experiences in the Deux Vallées Vertes area on one route, and tourist attractions in the area on the other.
Views of the Vosges SaĂ´noises
The “Point de vue depuis le mont” viewpoint is a landscape highlight in its own right, complementing the hiking and cycling routes: from there, you can see the Vosges Saônoises. If you are considering Mondon as a destination, it offers a range of options: a riverside walk, a forest trail, a long-distance hike, cycling routes and a viewpoint. The routes and the places they pass through can help you decide which way of exploring is right for your trip.
