Vuillecin combines historic religious buildings with trails and landscapes that offer opportunities for a range of activities. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on culture, a short hike, observing nature or a longer gravel ride.

Chapels and sacred art

The Chapelle Saint-Lazare dates from the 17th century. Its nave is single-aisled and has a barrel vault. “Single-aisled” describes a church interior with one main nave; a barrel vault is a rounded ceiling that runs lengthwise. The chapel’s furnishings include a polychrome wooden altar and a reliquary statue of Saint Lazarus. The statue is a work of folk art from the 18th century. At Saint-Lazare, both the architectural form and sacred art take centre stage. “Polychrome” describes a multicoloured design and helps identify the altar as a distinctive feature of the chapel’s furnishings.

The Chapelle Saint-Georges and the Church of Saint-Claude also add historic touches. The Chapelle Saint-Georges was completed in 1861. In 1792, the council members of Vuillecin decided to build the Church of Saint-Claude; it was inaugurated in 1804. Together with the Chapelle Saint-Lazare, which dates from the 17th century, these dates mark different periods in Vuillecin’s history of religious architecture.

Walks and wildlife

At Lac du Moray, you can go for a walk and observe the wildlife of the lake and its surroundings. This means the lake appeals to two different interests: walking and observing nature. The reference to wildlife includes both the lake and its surrounding area.

The Sentier de la Chire is a very easy, one-hour, one-kilometre circular trail through the Vuillecin forest. It is described as a family-friendly trail and has information panels. The route leads to a viewpoint over the Plaine de l'Arlier and then back to the starting point in Vuillecin. Its distance, duration and circular format give the trail a clear profile: it is a short loop, but one hour is allocated for it. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Views and scenic routes

The Belvédère de la Chire offers views of Pontarlier and the surrounding municipalities. The Sentier de la Chire, by contrast, looks out over the Plaine de l'Arlier. These viewpoints therefore offer different landscapes.

The La CĂ´te du Fol route offers another perspective. It passes through pastureland with views of the Plaine de l'Arlier. Between Dommartin and Vuillecin, it follows the River Drugeon. Pastures, views and the stretch alongside the river are distinct landscape features of this route.

A walking loop or a gravel route

For a different kind of activity, there is the 40.1-kilometre Chaffois ni loi gravel loop, which passes through Vuillecin. Comparing it with the Sentier de la Chire highlights the difference in scale and activity: one is a one-kilometre walking loop that takes an hour, while the other is a 40.1-kilometre gravel ride. The routes therefore suit different travel plans, although no duration is given for the gravel route.

You can then apply your own criteria when choosing a hotel.
