Oletta offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: sacred architectural history, contemporary art, a museum with three-dimensional displays, marked trails, and Lac de Padula. If you are looking for a hotel in Oletta, these themes can help you organize your interests for your stay.

Sacred architectural history and heritage protection

The Église Saint-André’s architectural history and protection status can be understood through several dates. Construction began in 1777, and green stone from the demolition of the previous building was reused. On March 19, 1979, a decree designated the church as a historic monument. The two dates mark different milestones: 1777 for the start of construction and 1979 for its later protection status. A 16th-century triptych associated with the Église Saint-André had already been designated a historic monument in 1956.

The former Saint-François monastery was built in the late 12th or early 13th century. The chapel of the former monastery is specifically identified as the protected part: a decree dated November 29, 1974, listed it as a historic monument. The monastery’s construction period and the chapel’s listing therefore refer to different historical dates and distinct aspects of the site.

Art, from moving images to sacred works

The Ange Leccia Center for Contemporary Art was founded in 2014 in Maison Conti, in the heart of the village of Oletta. It focuses mainly on moving images and the production and presentation of international contemporary art. Its focus therefore combines a particular artistic medium with an interest in contemporary art.

The Musée d’Art Sacré offers a different focus. It is located in the single-nave interior of the Santa Croce chapel. Stereoscopic image walls show monuments and churches in three-dimensional perspective. The museum presents a virtual display of 1,000 remarkable religious objects from Cap Corse, Nebbiu, and Custera. The three-dimensional presentation and the objects shown virtually give a museum visit a different focus from the moving images at the Ange Leccia Center.

Marked trails and Lac de Padula

The “Voyage dans le temps” route covers 4 km of marked trails. It lets you discover the local fauna and flora, as well as historic buildings, mills, fountains, and the lanes of the village of Oletta. Nature and cultural features are thus both part of the route. Seasonal fire-prevention restrictions may apply; check current local guidance before planning your visit.

Most of Lac de Padula lies within the municipality of Oletta. The reservoir can only be reached on foot. Check for current local restrictions before planning your visit. The practical details differ: for the route, the distance and what you can see are given; for Lac de Padula, the main practical point is how to access it.
