Morosaglia brings together historic religious buildings, places of remembrance, and landscapes with extensive chestnut and oak stands. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip focused on cultural history, the churches, U Ponte di A Leccia, and Pascal Paoli’s history offer concrete themes for planning your trip. The panoramic views of the chestnut and oak landscapes also shape the view of the area. You can therefore explore Morosaglia from several perspectives: its architectural forms, named historical connections, and landscape.

Churches and Historic Buildings

Old slate houses with roofs made of slate tiles are part of Morosaglia’s architectural heritage. They are joined by Romanesque and Baroque religious buildings. This offers two tangible ways to explore the architecture: the materials and roofs of the houses, and the different styles of the religious buildings. Together, they provide a cultural and historical perspective that goes beyond individual names.

Santa Reparata is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th or 13th century; its apse is shaped like a half-dome. Santa Reparata is also associated with Pascal Paoli’s baptism: he was baptized there. The parish church of San Francescu holds the tombs of Clemente Paoli and Alfieru Elaminiu Pulidori. The churches therefore have distinct, clearly identifiable connections to the Paoli family: a baptism at Santa Reparata and two tombs at San Francescu.

U Cunventu in Morosaglia was built between April 2, 1623, and 1716. It is currently closed to visitors for safety reasons. Check access again before your trip.

The Musée Pascal-Paoli preserves memories of the “Father of the Fatherland” and presents his work in independent Corsica in the 18th century. Pascal Paoli has rested in the family chapel since 1889. His historical portrayal in the museum and his final resting place are two distinct aspects of Paoli’s history.

U Ponte di A Leccia and Its History

U Ponte di A Leccia is located in the hamlet of Ponte Leccia in Morosaglia. The Genoese humpback bridge crosses the Golo; it was built before 1679. The Saint Martin chapel stands at the foot of the bridge. By decree of June 18, 1928, U Ponte di A Leccia was designated a historic monument. The two dates answer different questions: before 1679 refers to its construction, while 1928 refers to its later designation as a monument. You can thus consider the bridge’s design, its connection to the Golo, the chapel, and its protected status as distinct aspects of this structure.

Landscape and Getting Around

The landscape is also a tangible part of the area’s character. In the natural inventory dated June 12, 2025, Morosaglia is listed as one of the municipalities that form part of the ZNIEFF zone of the Massif de San Petrone. The zone covers 1,380.87 hectares and is designated as a protected forest. This area figure refers to the entire zone, not just the municipality. From Morosaglia, you can enjoy panoramic views of landscapes with extensive chestnut and oak stands. The views and the inventory classification offer two distinct perspectives: the panorama on the one hand, and the zone’s size and designated protected status on the other.
