Antisanti: Hiking Trail, Village History and Ferme Sorbelle
Accommodation in Antisanti
Antisanti brings together a linear hiking trail, village history and a farm offering insights into aromatic and medicinal plants. In the village, a Baroque church and several distinctive historic buildings complete the picture. This gives you three different highlights to focus on when planning your visit: walking a named route, exploring the village’s architecture and history, and visiting Ferme Sorbelle, where individual activities have their own arrangements.
Hiking trails and scenic viewpoints
The Sentier d’Antisanti / Pont Genois is a linear trail from Piedicorti to Antisanti. The starting point and destination are named, and the route runs in this direction. Route information may change, so check the details again before your trip.
A panoramic viewpoint is described as a notable landmark. In one direction, the views across the landscape extend to some of the most beautiful peaks; in the other, they reach the islands of Elba and Monte Cristo. A panoramic viewpoint with views of the peaks and both islands is also listed for the Sentier d’Antisanti / Purizzone. The view is therefore a shared point of interest on both routes; the description of the route from Piedicorti to Antisanti applies to Pont Genois.
Church and historic houses
At the heart of the village stands the Église Saint Pierre aux Liens d’Antisanti, a Baroque church. It was extended in 1844. During a recent restoration, the statue of Hercules that supported the pulpit was replaced with an angel’s head. The church thus offers both a specific architectural date and a distinctive detail of its interior.
Casa Pietrana is considered the oldest house in the village of Antisanti. Above the door is a corbel stone decorated with a cross and four circular medallions. The sculpture probably dates from the 14th century. The house is not open to visitors.
Casa Marianaghja stands out for its tall, narrow shape. Above the first-floor window is a stone characteristic of the 15th century. This house is also not open to visitors.
At the far end of the village stands the large Caserna. In the days of the notorious bandit Gallochju, the building housed the gendarmerie; it is not open to visitors. The three houses offer different historical clues: a sculpture probably dating from the 14th century, a stone characteristic of the 15th century, and the former function of a building.
Ferme Sorbelle: plants and distillation
At Ferme Sorbelle in the Sorbelle district of Antisanti, you can take a self-guided tour of aromatic and medicinal plants. If you are interested in distilling essential oils, you can take part in a half-day introduction by appointment. Arrange a time with the farm in advance. The two activities are organized differently: the plant tour is self-guided, while the introduction to distillation takes place by appointment.
Ferme Sorbelle sells citrus fruit, olive oil, essential oils and liqueur directly at the farm. In addition to the two activities, a range of products is also available. The plant tour, the appointment-based introduction and the products on sale offer different ways to experience Sorbelle.
