Mont Aimé lies partly in Bergères-Lès-Vertus and partly in Coligny. It overlooks the southern part of the Côte des Blancs as well as the chalky Champagne plain. Mont Aimé is a particularly remarkable geological and palaeontological site, giving the destination a distinctive landscape setting.

Mont Aimé: Nature and History

The 51.25-hectare ZNIEFF Type 1 area “Bois de la Butte du Mont-Aimé” also includes Bergères-Lès-Vertus. The corresponding INPN entry is dated 11 June 2025. On the summit and parts of the slopes, the natural area includes woodland, scrubland, grassland and pine forests. The Mont Aimé area is classified under the French law of 1930.

You can also combine a walk with a glimpse into the mountain’s history: Blanche de Navarre had the castle built on Mont Aimé in 1210. Today, shaded paths lead through woods and clearings and past the ruins of the former castle. A viewpoint offers a panorama over the Côte de l’Île-de-France and the chalky Champagne plain.

The municipal program “La légende du chariot d’or” offers a playful exploration of the Mont Aimé fortress in 1283. The free tour uses virtual reality. Check the current app and equipment arrangements before your visit, as these may change.

Saint-Memmie Church

The oldest parts of Saint-Memmie Church date from the late 11th century. Other architectural features reflect distinct periods and styles: the portal dates from the 15th century, the nave is Gothic, and the choir and chapels belong to the Flamboyant period. To understand the church, it is worth looking at these different parts and their construction phases rather than viewing them as a single building phase.

Walks and Hikes

The PR 147 circular route, “Les Foulées Bergères,” passes through the village and vineyards, offering views of the Côte des Blancs and Mont Aimé. It is rated as an easy hike, is 6.7 kilometres long and has an estimated duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The route listing was updated in February 2026; trail conditions may change. Check them before setting out. As another local option, the municipality recommends a walk along the Berle.
