Saint-Gervais-La-Forêt offers several themes to consider when planning a trip: heritage, routes and nature. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the area, the historical landmarks and specific dates can help you decide what to focus on during your trip. Would you mainly like to explore the history, set aside time for a heritage trail, or take in the landscape and birdlife? These themes offer different perspectives on your stay.

A heritage trail with 23 stops

The “Parcours patrimoine” is a heritage trail with 23 stops. Information panels are located near local buildings. The trail is 7.3 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. Together, the number of stops, route length and approximate duration provide an overview of what to expect and the time required. Check the route details before your trip.

QR codes on the panels provide access to additional photos, eyewitness accounts and archives. As digital content may change, check before your visit whether these additional materials are available.

The church, house and Château in history

The first official and authentic mention of the church of Saint-Gervais opposite Blois dates from 1034. Another historical landmark is the house known as “Le Prieuré”: Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin bought it in Saint-Gervais-La-Forêt on 17 January 1849.

The Château on the Loire overlooks the hillside opposite the town of Blois. It belongs to the de Warren family; their ancestor Louis-Catherine Bergevin had it built in the mid-19th century. The historical perspective thus stretches from 1034 to the mid-19th century: the early mention of the church is complemented by the dated purchase of the house and the Château’s construction history.

Route times and digital activity

The “Parcours patrimoine” takes approximately two hours, while the Sentier du Rain takes one to two hours. The time frames are therefore similar in length; the Sentier gives a range, while the heritage trail has a single approximate duration. This comparison can help you get a rough idea of the time required when planning your trip.

The digital game “Magie sur le chemin du Rain” takes you through the Russy Forest. Participants listen to explanations, solve tasks and collect clues for a final question. The digital game’s availability may change; check in advance whether it is available for your visit.

Greenway and landscape at the Russy Forest

The three-kilometre voie verte runs between Saint-Gervais-la-Forêt and Cellettes and supports tourist mobility, including travel towards Château de Beauregard and the Russy state forest. Check the route conditions if you plan to include this connection in your trip.

Below the Russy Forest, Le Champ de Tir de Russy is a wide, partly flood-prone plain. It provides a habitat for numerous birds. Bird sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. The nature-related themes therefore focus on both the landscape and its wildlife, which changes with the seasons.
