Explore Ingrandes through its heritage and range of routes: the Château d’Ingrandes, Notre-Dame, the Moulin de Pontigny and the Maison des Abeilles sit alongside hiking, cycling and horse-riding routes. When deciding whether Ingrandes suits your planned stay, the type of visit matters: some attractions have set or seasonal opening hours, while routes come with their own practical considerations. The information below will help you factor cultural visits and activities into your plans.

Château, Church and Mill History

The Château d’Ingrandes dates from the 11th century and was restored in the 14th century. It is classified as a Monument historique. The parish church of Notre-Dame was built or rebuilt between 1696 and 1698. Work carried out in the 19th and early 20th centuries left almost nothing of this rectangular building. The church is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm; check the visiting information before you arrive.

The Moulin de Pontigny also brings history together with a striking technical detail. Its foundation is attributed to the royal Abbey of Saint-Savin; in 1439, the mill belonged to the seigneury of Ingrandes. The restored mill can be visited. Its waterwheel and internal mechanism are operational. As visiting arrangements should be checked again before travelling, it is advisable to confirm the options in good time.

The Maison de la Croix Blanche features frescoes by Willette. These artworks offer a distinct cultural experience alongside Ingrandes’ historic buildings.

Visits and Practical Information

The Maison des Abeilles is a visitor centre dedicated to bees, beekeeping and bee products. It includes a permanent exhibition, a glass-sided beehive, a honey extractor or honey-processing facility, and an educational apiary. A visit therefore combines learning with insights into beekeeping and honey processing.

The Musée Henry de Monfreid can be visited Monday to Friday by appointment on 06 80 70 54 65. From 1 May to 30 September, it is also open Saturdays and Sundays from 3 pm to 6 pm. Visiting options vary by weekday and season; check the opening hours and appointment arrangements before your visit.

For an outdoor break, the Aire de Jeux Ă  La Plage offers a play, relaxation and picnic area, as well as a floodlit boules court. Check the information about this municipal facility locally. This helps distinguish it from cultural attractions with set opening times and the route options.

On Foot, by Bike or on Horseback

The “Par les sentiers boisés” hiking trail no. 30 starts in Ingrandes at the Voie Verte, behind the community hall near the former railway station. It follows the Anglin to the Chapelle de Plaincourault and offers views of the Château d’Ingrandes. Flooding can affect the riverside section; also check the local signs at the starting point.

For cyclists, the Voie Verte runs from Ingrandes through Concremiers to Le Blanc. This offers a different route option from hiking trail no. 30, whose described course follows the Anglin to the chapel and viewpoints of the château. Local surface or access conditions may change.

Four horse-riding routes, with alternatives for horse-drawn carriages, start at the Manoir de Saint-Victor; Ingrandes is listed as the starting point. One of the riding routes follows the Anglin to Lurais and is 27 km long. If you plan to take one of these routes, check the arrangements in advance. The routes described differ not only by mode of travel: the hike specifies the river and destinations, while one riding route also has a specific length.

When planning a stay in Ingrandes, you can weigh up cultural attractions with different visiting hours and routes suited to different ways of getting around. If a particular visit is important to you, plan around its opening hours or appointment requirements. For routes, it is worth checking the relevant guidance, especially for possible disruption to the riverside section.
