Montlouis-Sur-Loire opens onto the valleys of the Loire and Cher. The Loire Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; vineyards and hamlets built of white stone shape the rural landscape. To plan your stay, you can choose from walks, wine experiences, and cultural stops. When looking for a hotel, it also helps to think ahead about which of these themes matter most for your trip.

Walks and Loire Experiences

For a short circular walk, “Entre vignes et bois” is an easy 2.30 km route. It was designed to be accessible to people with reduced mobility, care-home residents, and families. The conditions described do not replace checking the current state of the paths: find out before your visit.

At 17 km, “Entre Loire et vignes” is a much longer route. It follows the river and passes through the vineyards of the Montlouis-sur-Loire AOC. At the end, on Chemin de Bellevue, there is a panoramic view of the Loire. The two stated distances give you a concrete point of reference when deciding between a short circular walk and a longer hike.

The Maison de la Loire 37 shares knowledge about the Loire’s heritage and offers discovery outings along the Loire throughout the year, both for groups and the general public. The programme and availability may vary. Another way to explore is the smartphone game “Le concours d’architecte de Benjamin CHAUSSEMICHE”: to play, you will need a charged smartphone with sound and geolocation enabled.

Architecture, Exhibitions, and Gardens

The Église Saint-Laurent retains architectural features from the early 12th century: a vaulted apse in the shape of a half-dome, as well as the base of the bell tower. The art exhibitions at the municipal gallery Le Carroi des Arts change every three weeks. As the exhibition programme changes regularly, it is worth checking the current selection before visiting.

The park and gardens of the Château de la Bourdaisière cover 55 hectares and include an art trail through the woods. The gardens are open to the public seasonally: from 7 April to 31 May and from 1 October to 2 November, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; from 1 June to 30 September, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. As visiting arrangements may change, check the opening times when planning your visit. The château also hosts the Tomato and Flavours Festival each year. Dates and programme vary from year to year.

Wine, Landscape, and Local Experiences

Founded in 1961, Maison Laudacius brings together 15 winemakers from the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation and is recognised as a “Cave d’Excellence.” A guided tour takes you through underground cellars, followed by a wine tasting. Find out about the current visiting arrangements in advance. The vineyards are also part of the “Entre Loire et vignes” route and, together with the white-stone hamlets, shape the rural character of the surrounding area.

Île de Bondésir has a discovery trail covering about 30 hectares. This natural area adds a dedicated route through the landscape to the walking and cultural experiences on offer. If you are particularly interested in the Loire, the Maison de la Loire 37 offers both a place to learn about the river’s heritage and outings to discover the Loire.

Planning Your Stay

The Montlouis-sur-Loire tourist office is a central point of contact. Advisors can help you find accommodation and restaurants, as well as provide information about leisure and cultural activities. If you would like to coordinate your visits, you can discuss different needs there; check contact details and opening hours in advance. This makes it easier to choose walks, exhibitions, gardens, and wine experiences that match your travel interests, while keeping seasonal opening times and changing programmes in mind.
