Le Subdray can be explored through a range of themes: the hills and slopes of the “Pelouses des Chaumes du Verniller,” the course of the Rampenne, Notre-Dame du Subdray Church and art-related events. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Le Subdray, these specific themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. Nature, walking routes and cultural heritage each offer a different perspective, so you can choose your destination based on what interests you most during your trip.

Nature and protected landscapes

One distinctive natural feature is the “Pelouses des Chaumes du Verniller,” a site included in the natural heritage inventory. It covers 185.2 hectares and lies partly within the municipality of Subdray. The area extends across hills and slopes in a triangle between the A71, the Luchaire site and the centre of Le Subdray. More than 60 characteristic plant species grow there, including around 15 protected species. The landscape and plant life offer different ways to appreciate the area: the slopes shape the terrain, while the plant species highlight its diversity.

Another natural feature is the ecological inventory site “Pelouses, ourlets et chênaie thermophiles du Bois de Saint-Florent.” Part of this inventory site belongs to the Natura 2000 protected area “Coteaux, bois et marais calcaires de la Champagne Berrichone.”

River and walking routes

The Rampenne emerges in Le Subdray near the Bois de Cologne and close to Tronçay. The river crosses several fields and passes over paths towards the Bois des Déserts and Vignou. These place names and the river’s course make the landscape easier to picture.

Walking routes are also described by distance: the walk organised by the Entente des Marcheurs de Trouy in Le Subdray included four routes of 8, 14, 21 and 29 kilometres. The range from 8 to 29 kilometres shows the variation in route length, with 14 and 21 kilometres as the two middle-distance options. The GRP ChB-10-C includes the section “La Vallée – Le Subdray – Les Déserts.”

Heritage and events

Notre-Dame du Subdray Church is a recently restored example of Romanesque architecture and has been listed as a historic monument in France since 1926. If you are planning a visit, check access in advance. A stele near the football pitch commemorates those who fell in the war.

The 2026 edition of “Les Arts dans le jardin,” held on Sunday, June 7, was the third event in a row. It focused on ceramics, drawing, painting, pastel and calligraphy. Visitors could discover artworks by both returning and newly featured artists throughout the day. The programme also included a demonstration of Évelyne Leblet’s millinery skills. This edition thus brought together different art forms and a craft demonstration.
