Romanesque Details and Renaissance Chapels

Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church features elements from different periods. Its Romanesque capitals date from the time when the church was built. Capitals are the uppermost parts of columns or pillars; here, a specific architectural feature is therefore linked to the period when the building was constructed. The apse also features a clearly identifiable architectural detail: an arcade there is decorated with zigzag patterns. An arcade consists of arches joined in a sequence, so the pattern forms part of an architectural element rather than being merely a single ornament. Side chapels from the Renaissance period complement the Romanesque features. The building thus brings together different architectural accents that can be placed in their historical context.

Two Châteaux, Two Building Histories

The Château de La Resle was built in the 17th century and retains its original spatial volumes. The term refers to the spatial form of a building or its rooms. When placing the château in context, its period of construction is therefore not the only relevant factor; the preservation of these original volumes also matters. The Château de Montfort offers a different perspective in time: it is a beautiful estate dating from the 18th century. A seven-hectare park surrounds the Château de Montfort. The comparison makes the different points of interest clear: at La Resle, the construction period and the preserved spatial volumes stand out; at Montfort, it is the following century and the park.

Vineyards, Forest, Fields and Paths

Montigny-la-Resle borders the Forest of Saint-Germain. The landscape includes vineyards, forest and fields; there are also paths suitable for walking. This means that, alongside the architecture, the landscape and outdoor activities can also be considered as themes for a trip. Those interested in taking a walk will find a specific point of reference in the paths described here. Forests and fields are part of the landscape, as are the vineyards. When choosing the focus of a stay, you can therefore choose between architecture and a trip more centred on the landscape, without reducing both interests to the same activity.

Fishing at the Municipal Pond

Fishing is possible at the municipal pond from 15 March to 15 November. A fishing permit issued by the municipal administration is required. The dates and permit are the practical essentials for anyone wishing to include fishing in their plans. As dates and details about eligibility may change, it is advisable to check the current conditions with the municipal administration in advance. This seasonal activity can thus be distinguished from the architectural and landscape themes described as available year-round.
