Nature watching, a trail, local history and local produce each offer a different focus. Consider whether you would like to plan your trip around nature, the trail, Saint-Denis Church or the municipality’s produce.

Nature, Biodiversity and Trails

Amoureux de la Nature à Saint Maurice de Satonnay (ADN) offers educational field trips where visitors can discover local biodiversity. Each trip is planned separately. The association also organises meetings on joint projects to protect fauna and flora. When planning, check the date of a specific trip.

Aire des Jaudières is a leisure and nature area with a pond, covering more than 100,000 m² in Saint-Maurice-De-Satonnay. The pond and grounds are the focus here, while the association’s field trips are a separately planned educational activity.

The Les Grenouillats trail passes through a limestone area and by several water features and local landmarks: washhouses in Champagne and Satonnay, a pond in Collonges, and the Mouge and Isérable waterways. Spring, summer and autumn are considered ideal seasons for the trail. Some sections may be muddy in winter. Take current trail conditions into account when planning. Unlike the trail’s seasonal guidance, individual ADN field trips are planned separately; these are two distinct time frames to consider for your trip.

The private fishing area open to anglers includes the Mouge upstream of the RN 6 and its tributaries, the rivers of Clessé and Igé, the Bicheron, the Talenchant, the Péronne stream, the Petite Mouge and the Grande Mouge. Access and rules may change seasonally. Check these conditions before planning a specific fishing visit.

Saint-Denis Church and Local History

The parish church of Saint-Denis in Saint-Maurice-De-Satonnay stands today in the hamlet of Le Bourg. It is one of the department’s few Gothic churches. Louis de Chevrier, the lord of the village at the time, built it around 1460; he was buried there in 1472. Its construction, builder and burial connect the church with a specific chapter in local history.

Winegrowing and Organic Farming

Domaine Benoit Lenoir produces white and red wines from Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Gamay grapes. Jardins du Vernay grows vegetables, fruit and soft fruit using organic farming methods. The two producers have different focuses: Domaine Benoit Lenoir specialises in wines and grape varieties, while Jardins du Vernay focuses on a variety of crops. Wine production and market gardening thus add two further, concrete aspects of local production to the area’s nature and history.
