La Chapelle-Thècle brings together waterways, fishing and memorial sites. The 4-hectare Étang du Mont du Chat, the Sâne Vive with its pike spawning ground, and the Étangs des Grouettes with a fishery reserve represent different water-related features. The steles at Les Devus, Petit Bordey and Rompois commemorate events from the Second World War. The history of the Église Sainte-Thècle is another part of the picture. When planning your trip, you can choose to focus on the waterways and fishing or explore the area’s local memorial and church history.

Waterways, Protected Areas and River Course

The Étang du Mont du Chat is in La Chapelle-Thècle and covers 4 hectares. On the Sâne Vive, there is a 0.115-hectare pike spawning ground; the Étangs des Grouettes include a 1-hectare fishery reserve. These area figures refer to different things: at Mont du Chat, the figure refers to the pond’s surface area; on the Sâne Vive, to the spawning ground; and at the Étangs des Grouettes, to the fishery reserve. This distinction helps put the figures in context, as the surface area of a pond is not directly comparable to the size of a protected area.

La Voye flows into the Sâne Vive. Its course is about 10 km long, of which approximately 3.2 km runs within the commune. The two figures answer different questions: the total length describes the entire course, while the second figure refers only to the section within La Chapelle-Thècle. This makes it possible to distinguish the length of the watercourse from the section within the commune.

Fishing and Local Conditions

The Étang du Mont du Chat is managed by the AAPPMA Romenay “La Perche” fishing association. Fishing is permitted for members of the approved AAPPMA fishing associations in Saône-et-Loire, as well as for any angler with a fishing permit bearing a CHI, EHGO or URNE vignette. If fishing is part of your plans, this authorization is an important distinction: access to fishing is subject to the specified memberships or permits. Check the current local rules before your visit, as conditions may change.

The Sâne Vive is classified as a private second-category water and is open to fishing; it is within the area managed by the Romenay “La Perche” fishing sector. The Étangs des Grouettes are designated as a 1-hectare fishery reserve. The information about the three waters therefore differs both in the type of area described and in their fishing status. If you are interested in fishing opportunities, check the local regulations before fishing—particularly where a protected area is designated.

Memorial Sites and Local History

At Les Devus, a stele commemorates the two farmers, Louis GAUTHIER and Fernand CHARPY, who were killed by the Nazis on December 23, 1943. The stele at Petit Bordey commemorates an English aircraft that was hit by anti-aircraft fire on the night of April 24–25, 1944, and went up in flames. In the hamlet of Rompois, a stele erected in 2024 commemorates the emergency landing of an American fighter-bomber on September 4, 1944. Each memorial has its own distinct reference: at Les Devus, the focus is on two farmers; at Petit Bordey, on the aircraft crash; and at Rompois, on the emergency landing.

The Église Sainte-Thècle

The Église Sainte-Thècle is dedicated to Saint Thècle. She is described as a disciple of Saint Paul and the first martyr of the Orient; her cult was widespread in the Middle Ages. A chapel dedicated to Saint Thècle stood on the site of the church by 1155 at the latest. This means that the connection with Saint Thècle at this site dates back at least to 1155. The church’s dedication and the chapel’s history add a religious and much older historical dimension to the memorial sites.
