The commune lies at the foot of the Roche de Solutré; its vineyard landscape is associated with Saint-Véran. This offers a choice of distinct themes: scenery, wine, and history.

Scenery and trails

Davayé’s location at the foot of the Roche de Solutré provides a distinct landscape landmark. At the same time, vineyards shape the landscape, which is associated with Saint-Véran. For leisure, the Voie verte in Davayé offers an opportunity to relax, while the Chemin du Pèlerin can be walked here. These two features offer different attractions: the Voie verte is associated with relaxation, while the focus of the Chemin du Pèlerin is walking the named trail. If you enjoy exploring on foot, you can think of the Chemin du Pèlerin as a walking route; the Voie verte offers a separate opportunity to relax.

Wine and production

The Domaine des Poncétys is a 12-hectare estate dating from the 17th century. It is located in the heart of the Grand Site de Pouilly-Solutré-Vergisson in Davayé and is farmed organically. Cellar tours are offered there. As visitor arrangements may change, check the dates and details in advance. The estate also produces farmhouse goat’s milk cheese; if you are interested in a particular product, check its current availability. The estate thus combines an offered type of tour with the production of a specific product.

At Domaine Corsin, the wines take center stage: the winery produces wines under three protected designations of origin from the Chardonnay grape; all the wines are white. The product ranges may change, so if you are interested in specific current wines, check the current selection. The cuvées from Domaine de la Croix Senaillet are certified organic. For specific current vintages, you should check the certification status again.

Historic landmarks in Davayé

An early historical reference point is the first recorded mention of Davayé, which appears in a document from 938. The buildings, too, offer different insights into local history. The Varanjoux washhouse was built in 1871; the Chaponière washhouse was built in 1877 and later altered. The Chevigne washhouse has preserved all its original features. The information about the washhouses thus differs in terms of construction date, later alterations, and state of preservation.

For the Durandis washhouse, its former function takes precedence over a construction date: it served mainly as a watering place. Davayé’s church adds another sequence of construction to these historical landmarks. Its bell tower was built in the 12th century and raised several centuries later. The named buildings thus offer different aspects to explore: the use of a washhouse, the development of individual buildings, and the chronology of the church tower.
