Prusly-sur-Ource offers several distinct points of interest for your stay: the architectural history at the Crépan site, a mill with preserved machinery, a natural area, as well as ceramics and wine. These themes appeal to different interests and can be considered separately when planning your trip. When choosing a hotel, it may help to first decide whether you would like to focus primarily on local history, nature, crafts or wine.

Architectural history at the Crépan site

A castle built by the Lords of Crépan in the Middle Ages once stood at the Crépan site. A château was built on the same spot in the 18th century and was reconstructed after a fire in 1896. The site also includes a dovecote dating from the last quarter of the 16th century; above its entrance is the inscription “EN MAY 1598”. The date adds a specific reference point to the dovecote’s historical context. Several building phases can therefore be distinguished at the site: the medieval castle, the late-16th-century dovecote and the château, reconstructed after the fire. For travellers interested in historic architecture, the particular appeal lies in this sequence of periods.

Mill and natural area

The mill at the hamlet of Ferme de Crépan reveals another facet of the area’s history. It is now used as a residence and lies beside a millrace diverted from the Ource. The wheel shafts and the associated mechanism of the former millstones have been preserved. The building’s current residential use sits alongside parts of its former milling equipment. The millrace and preserved machinery make it possible to understand the site’s former use as a mill.

The natural area includes “Vallée et coteaux à Prusly-sur-Ource”, listed as ZNIEFF Type I No. 260030080. The 2024 entry highlights its particular faunal and floral interest. The focus is therefore on animal and plant life—a different perspective from architectural history and mill machinery. If you would like to combine nature with cultural history, Prusly-sur-Ource offers different areas of interest that can be considered separately when planning your trip.

Ceramics and wine

At Atelier au coeur de la Terre – Poterie Laurence Petit, white stoneware clay is shaped on the pottery wheel or worked into slabs. These two methods represent different ways of working with ceramics: throwing on the wheel and forming the clay into slabs. The ceramics feature a wide range of unique designs, including owls, irises and poppies; custom pieces can also be made to order. Demonstrations on the pottery wheel and explanations of the various stages of production are available on request. If you would like to arrange a demonstration, agree on the details in advance, as demonstrations are offered on request.

Wine is another specific point of interest. Beaufort Alice offers winery tours and wine tastings at the Ferme du bois de Langres estate in Prusly-sur-Ource. A cellar tour and a tasting are two different ways to discover the estate. If you would like to include either in your plans, check availability before your visit.
