Fauverney is shaped by the history of mills on the Ouche, the 41-hectare Parc de Chassagne and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel in Fauverney, these themes can help you decide whether local history, woodland scenery or walking routes suit your stay.

Local history on the Ouche

A weir on the Ouche has powered mills since at least the 12th century. Another chapter in the area's industrial history dates to 1827: a blast furnace in Fauverney processed ore from MalforĂŞt and used wood from Boulouze. These two sites illustrate different aspects of how the river, ore and wood were used.

The area's architectural history also reaches far back. The Church of Saint George dates from the 11th century, stands on a hill and is surrounded by the cemetery. The covered rainwater washhouse on Rue de la Fontaine dates from 1846. These buildings provide different points of reference in the area's history.

The field name “Pièce du Temple” recalls the former presence of the Knights Templar in Fauverney; this name is all that remains of the former site. The Muteau family also built a manor house next to the Chassagne estate, known as “le château.” The name Château de Chassagne is also used for a municipal venue: the municipality makes a hall there available for use.

Woodland and trails in Parc de Chassagne

Parc de Chassagne is characterized by dense woodland and a wide variety of tree species. Notable trees include giant sequoias and bald cypresses. Visitors use the park's fitness trail, botanical trail, ponds, paths and woodland areas. The park therefore offers both nature-related features and designated trails and facilities.

The fitness trail is freely accessible and consists of two loops. A 2011 municipal bulletin gives the longer loop as 820 metres and the shorter one as 540 metres—making the shorter loop 280 metres less. Check the current route before your visit, as these distances refer to the description at that time.

The botanical trail complements the woodland paths. Some of the trees along it have dried out or disappeared. If you are particularly interested in tree species, the park also offers concrete examples of its varied planting, including the giant sequoias and bald cypresses mentioned above.

More trails and facilities

Parc Renot has a freely accessible multisport city stadium. If you plan to use this facility, check the current conditions before your visit. This allows you to take Fauverney's various leisure facilities into account without conflating the trails and park facilities with the sports offering.

In July 2025, the municipality inaugurated a footpath with a pedestrian bridge over the Ouche. The project aimed to promote sustainable mobility, quality of life and accessibility for all. It also incorporates a footpath intended to make it easier to get from the town centre to the football pitches and the neighbourhood on Rue des Moulins. This connecting path is described as a project objective, not as confirmation that the entire route has been completed.

Ponds and event venue

The ponds on the Domaine de Chassagne are used for recreational fishing. If you plan to fish, check access and local rules in advance. This means visits to the ponds and fishing plans remain subject to local conditions.

The municipality makes a hall at Château de Chassagne available for private events such as weddings and communions, as well as institutional events. Check the booking conditions before planning a date.
