Egliseneuve-D'entraigues brings together a variety of attractions for a stay: hiking trails start in the village, lakes and waterfalls are found nearby, and the Church of Saint-Austremoine preserves remarkable furnishings.

Lakes, Waterfalls and Landscapes

Lac d’Entraigues covers around 8,000 square metres. Beech and birch trees line its partly marshy shores. There are plenty of picnic tables and a car park for visitors. A signposted path leads from the lake to Cascade du Bois de Chaux; the round trip takes 20 minutes, and the route is suitable for a pushchair. The waterfall consists of several cascades over ancient basalt lava. It lies in a valley lined with beech trees.

Lac de Chambedaze offers a different landscape: it is a peat lake whose water surface has shrunk to around 5 to 6 hectares as a result of peat formation over almost 5,000 years. Cascade d’Entraigues, meanwhile, is 18 metres high and lies in a narrow valley surrounded by lush ferns and beech trees. The natural attractions range from a partly marshy lakeshore and traces of peat formation to waterfalls in wooded valleys.

Hiking Trails and Mountain Biking

The GR® 4 starts in Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues in the Puy-de-Dôme department. The circular Le Tour des Vaches Rouges hiking trail also starts in the village. It crosses a plateau more than 1,000 metres high, with pastures, lakes, peat bogs and Salers cattle. The two trails offer different points of reference: the GR® 4 is identified by its starting point in the village, while the Tour des Vaches Rouges focuses on the plateau's landscape, pastures and wetlands.

A local mountain biking area is also available: the Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues sector of the Espace Sancy VTT-FFC is on the northern edge of the Cézallier plateau. The trails showcase the natural landscape, alongside more challenging routes. When planning, you can therefore choose between hiking routes with described landscapes and a mountain biking area with trails for different ability levels.

Church, Market and Local Highlights

The Church of Saint-Austremoine is a 12th-century Romanesque church in the Auvergnat style. Its furnishings include polychrome elements and carved capitals. It is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year-round. Three objects in the church are protected as historic monuments: an 18th-century altarpiece, a 15th-century wooden statue depicting the first bishop of the Arverni, and a 16th-century stone PietĂ . Its architecture, furnishings and three protected works offer distinct cultural highlights for visitors.

Sancy Tour No. 18, “De vachàs, de mounde, de fromajou,” is a discovery trail through Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues. It presents the village as the birthplace of Saint-Nectaire cheese and explores waterfalls, the church, historic remains and facts about the cheese. The Marché d’Égliseneuve-d’Entraigues also offers regional products, crafts, clothing, souvenirs and fresh produce; in spring, there is also a flower market. These themes make both cultural heritage and local products potential highlights of your stay.

The natural attractions vary in landscape and activity, while the trail and market offer an insight into local culture and regional products. This lets you plan your trip around the interests that bring you to Egliseneuve-D'entraigues.
