Discover Chavagnac
Accommodation in Chavagnac
If you are looking for a hotel in Chavagnac, your interests can guide your trip planning: walks, scenic views, heritage or fruit products. The local trails vary in length and landscape; there are also notable historic features and a selection of artisan-made fruit products.
Nature and views
The walk through the Bois de Chavagnac starts in Chavagnac and leads through a beech forest. With a little luck, you may spot deer. At the Roche du Pic, there is an orientation table and a 360-degree viewpoint. From there, you can see the Monts du Cantal and the Cézallier Plateau. These natural sites offer different highlights: the Bois focuses on the forest and possible wildlife sightings, while the Roche du Pic offers panoramic views of the named landscapes.
Walking trails by length and landscape
The Suc de Piagat is a 6-kilometre circular trail in Chavagnac, with a walking time of 2 hours. The route passes through forests, farmland meadows and dry grassland, showcasing the region’s floral diversity. Along with its length, these landscape features give the circuit its own distinctive character.
Les quatre fers de l’âne (petit circuit) is a 3.2-kilometre circular trail with a walking time of 30 minutes and is rated very easy. Forest and wildlife define this route. Compared with the Suc de Piagat, the stated walking time is shorter; the Piagat route also includes farmland meadows and dry grassland. The two trails therefore differ both in the time needed and in the landscapes described.
Château and church
The Château de Chavagnac was built in 1440. The church, dedicated to Saint Stephen, dates from the 13th century. It houses a rare divided baptismal font from the 15th or 16th century. Together, these include a medieval church, a château with a precisely stated year of construction, and a later-dated furnishing. The baptismal font is a specific historic feature of the church; the building’s history and its sacred furnishings offer two different ways to explore the history of the area.
Fruit products and photo rallies
La Roche aux fruits makes artisan fruit products and sells them directly. The range includes jams, coulis, syrups, fruit pastes, compotes, plant-based jellies, oils and vinegars, as well as ice cream and sorbets. The products are available on site to taste or take away. There are also two one-hour family photo rallies for children aged 3 to 7. This brings fruit products together with a dedicated activity for a clearly specified age group. In terms of duration, a one-hour photo rally also falls between the 30-minute route and the two-hour Piagat circuit.
