Boucé: Washhouse, Church and Circular Trail
Accommodation in Boucé
There are several ways to plan a stay in Boucé: explore its architectural and local history, spend time at Étang du Moulin de la Presle, go fishing or walk the Sentier N°1. The historical details mainly concern the washhouse and Église Notre-Dame; at the pond, facilities and fishing permits are the focus, while the trail is defined by its layout, surface and access. These distinctions can help you choose what to explore in Boucé based on what matters for your trip.
Washhouse and Church: Architecture and History
The Lavoir de Boucé is the only circular washhouse with a funnel-shaped roof in the Allier département. It is also the only surviving remnant of the former château at the entrance to Boucé. Its architecture and historical connection give the washhouse two distinct aspects: the roof defines its architectural character, while its connection to the château points to the area’s past. A shaded footpath along the département road connects the washhouse to the village.
Église Notre-Dame in Boucé is a 19th-century neo-Romanesque church. It was built between 1882 and 1887 on the site of the former Notre Dame de la Jolivette church. Several stained-glass windows bear the signature MAILHOT. The dates refer to the present church building; the former church was its predecessor on the same site. The signatures add a detail about the interior to the building’s history.
Étang du Moulin de la Presle: A Break and Fishing
There are picnic tables and play equipment for children at Étang du Moulin de la Presle. If these facilities are important to your plans, check their condition locally before travelling, as what is available may change. Fishing requires an annual, weekly or daily permit issued by the Fédération. Discounted permits are available for children under 12 and for people aged 12 to 18. The Fédération Départementale de Pêche is responsible for managing fishing opportunities. Permits, prices, fishing rules and responsibilities may change, so check the conditions locally before planning a fishing trip. Permits differ in their periods of validity, while discounts are based on age groups.
The Sentier N°1 “A Fleur d’Eau”
The Circuit de Randonnée hiking route in Boucé includes the Sentier N°1 “A Fleur d’Eau.” The Sentier is a circular trail with a natural surface; it can be accessed on foot or by road. The circular layout and the surface describe different features: the first concerns the route, the second the ground underfoot. Check trail conditions before your visit, as they may change.
