Vynohradiv’s history can be explored through its varied uses over time: at Kankiv Castle, the story leads from a fortification to a royal castle and then a monastery. The Roman Catholic Church on Myru Street and Perényi Palace offer different points of interest. Together, these sites give a stay a cultural and historical focus; music, a preserved park and a tasting in the nearby area add to the picture.

Kankiv Castle: changing uses

Kankiv Castle in Vynohradiv is now a ruin. A fortification stood on the site in the 11th century; in the 12th to 13th centuries, Hungarian kings later elevated it to a royal castle. In the 15th century, Baron Perényi handed the fortress over to Franciscan monks, who converted it into a monastery. This sequence makes Kankiv more than a reference point in the history of a fortress: it also encompasses later royal and monastic uses.

Church and organ

The Roman Catholic Church at 2 Myru Street dates from the 13th century. Over time, it was extended and partly rebuilt. Its 19th-century organ was made by Sándor Ország and his son. If an opportunity to hear it arises during your stay, it is worth paying attention to the instrument. Alongside its architectural history, the church thus offers a musical point of interest.

Unlike Kankiv, whose history is marked by changing uses, the church’s story centers on the development of a religious building through extensions and alterations. Its architectural history and organ offer two different perspectives: you can focus on the building’s development or—if the opportunity arises—on the 19th-century instrument.

Perényi Palace and Park

Perényi Palace was built as a residence in the late 16th or early 17th century. Unlike Kankiv, its function as a residence is the central historical point of reference here. The palace thus complements the castle with a different kind of building and a different purpose.

The park at Perényi Palace has been preserved. Check its current condition before visiting. This lets you take the park into account in your plans without assuming what it will be like during your stay.

Tasting in the nearby area

The farm offers a tasting. Guests are served a selection of dairy products and various cheeses on a wooden board bearing the farm’s logo. The farm is in Oleshnyk, not in Vynohradiv itself, so the tasting is part of the area surrounding the destination. Check its current availability in advance.
