When planning a trip to Kosson, two different themes come together: historic buildings in the village and the nearby “Kosino” thermal complex. The Eötvös Palace and the Reformed Church offer specific points of interest in the village’s history and architecture; Kosino adds thermal and freshwater pools as well as a water park. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, you can first consider whether local culture or a visit to the nearby complex will shape your stay more.

Historic Buildings in Kosson

The Eötvös Palace is the village’s oldest secular building. The single-storey residence was built by the Rácz family in 1703. The term “secular” distinguishes the palace from religious buildings and identifies it as a different type of building from the Reformed Church. Together with its single-storey design and the named builders, this provides a clear connection to the village’s history. The year 1703 marks the construction of the palace.

The Reformed Church in Kosson is dedicated to Saint Catherine. It is located at 1 Kotolin Street and is used by the village’s Reformed congregation. The church was renovated between 1642 and 1654, at which time it acquired Renaissance features. The address pinpoints the church’s location; its dedication and use by the congregation also give it religious and communal significance. The Renaissance features are part of its architectural history.

When considering the chronology, it is important to distinguish between construction and renovation: 1703 is the year the palace was built, while 1642 to 1654 is the period when the church was renovated. The two dates therefore describe different building works and should not be compared as though they were equivalent construction dates. For a cultural and historical comparison, a secular residence and a church with Renaissance features stand side by side.

Kosino Thermal Complex Nearby

The “Kosino” thermal complex is located near Kosson. It has five pools: three with thermal water and two with freshwater. The water is drawn from boreholes more than 1,200 metres deep and has a temperature of 42°C at the outlet. This figure refers to the water temperature at the outlet. The borehole depth and outlet temperature describe different technical properties: the water’s source and its temperature as it emerges. The thermal complex grounds also include a water park, a hotel, a spa, and a restaurant.

Temporary closures for renovation work may occur. If you plan to visit the complex, check the current facilities and services before you go.

Route and Trip Planning

The regional tourist route “Silver Triangle of Zakarpattia Oblast” also passes through Kosson. The route was published in 2020. If you would like to follow its course on your tour, check the current route signs before setting out.

You can therefore choose between different focuses when planning your trip: the village’s architectural history, a regional route, or the water attractions in nearby Kosino. The historic buildings and the thermal complex are in different locations. When searching for a hotel, you can choose the focus that best suits your planned activities.
