Dilove offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: the historic designation of the geographic center of Europe, two wooden churches with their own architectural and heritage features, and routes to Pip Ivan, Lykhyi Waterfall, and the demonstration trout farm. You can tailor your stay to cultural history, architecture, or outdoor activities.

The historic designation of the center

Several places have been proposed as the geographic center of Europe. Dilove’s connection to this subject stems from a specific historical designation: in 1885–1887, geographers at the Imperial and Royal Military Geographical Institute in Vienna determined that the geographic center of Europe was in Dilove. The date and institution identify this historical designation without disregarding the other proposed locations.

A memorial was erected in Dilove on the road between Mukachevo and Rohatyn. It brings together two aspects of the subject: the geographic designation of the place and a remembrance of the determination made in the late 19th century. An educational ecological trail leads from the geographic center to the demonstration trout farm in Dilove, linking two of the excursions described here.

Wooden churches and their architectural history

The old wooden church in Dilove is identified as the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God and designated an architectural monument. In 2018, it was recognized as a cultural heritage site of national significance and added to Ukraine’s State Register of Immovable Monuments. Some of its original interior furnishings have been preserved; it is one of the few churches with its original furnishings intact. The bell tower is also noteworthy: it is considered an outstanding work of Hutsul folk architecture.

Another wooden church in Dilove is the Church of the Dormition. It was built from oak beams without nails and is decorated with carvings. Beside the church stands a two-story wooden bell tower dating from the 18th century. The site is notable both for the church’s construction and carvings and for the separate tower, whose date is historically established.

Hiking and educational trails

Hiking and driving routes to Mount Pip Ivan start at the foot of Dilove. Both lead to the same destination, but differ in whether you plan to travel on foot or by car. Check local conditions before setting out on a hike.

Near Dilove, a marked trail leads from the trout farm to Lykhyi Waterfall. It runs parallel to Lykhyi Creek and through an old beech and spruce forest.

Trout farm and exhibition

The demonstration trout farm in Dilove raises brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout. Visitors can feed and catch fish; preparation on site is also possible. If you plan these activities, check the current local visitor arrangements in advance.

Next to the farm is a tourist information center with an exhibition about aquatic ecosystems and their inhabitants, including the Carpathian trout. The exhibition complements the focus on individual farmed species with information about aquatic habitats and their inhabitants. If you plan to visit the exhibition or take part in activities at the farm, check current visitor arrangements in advance.
