Suchá nad Parnou: Educational Trails, Reservoir and Baroque Church
Accommodation in Suchá nad Parnou
You can plan a visit to Suchá nad Parnou around a range of attractions: two educational trails focus on different topics, the reservoir offers opportunities to explore nature and enjoy leisure activities, and the Church of St. Martin the Bishop adds architectural history and choral concerts to your stay. The detailed route information makes it easier to compare your options.
Hiking Trails by Time and Distance
The “Chotárom Suchej nad Parnou” hiking trail is open year-round, is 5.3 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 81 metres and takes about 65 minutes. It is considered an easy route. One of its five information boards covers viticulture and winemaking. So, in addition to route details, the trail also offers a specific topic to explore.
The “Učíme sa navzájom” educational trail is 5 kilometres long, takes about two hours and has eleven stops; it is also considered an easy route. It starts at the municipal office and leads past the Church of St. Martin, the school grounds and the Podháj reservoir, ending at Suchovský háj. By comparison, this trail is slightly shorter, but its estimated walking time is considerably longer. Similar distances alone therefore do not tell you much about how long each route takes.
Nature Topics and Recreation by the Water
“Učíme sa navzájom” focuses on natural history and cultural heritage. The trail introduces the area’s main landscape-ecological features and the distinctive elements of its flora and fauna. You can therefore consider its subject matter as well as its length and walking time when making your choice.
The “Vodná nádrž Suchá nad Parnou” reservoir is an artificial body of water on the Podhájsky potok stream. Its banks have gravel or grassy beaches with gently sloping access to the water. The reservoir is a destination for relaxation, fishing and other leisure activities, including outside the summer season. Local conditions along the shore may change; check them before your visit. If you plan to swim or fish, check local access conditions in advance.
The “Trnavskou Pahorkatinou” route also passes through Suchá nad Parnou and then runs northwest past the “Vodná nádrž Suchá” reservoir. If you include this route in your plans, check the current route, conditions along the way and trail markings.
Baroque Church and Architectural History
The Baroque Church of St. Martin the Bishop was built on the site of an older Gothic church. Its construction dates refer to two different parts: the presbytery dates from 1700 and the nave from 1708. In addition to its liturgical use, the church also serves as a venue for choral concerts featuring choirs from various parts of Slovakia and the world. If a concert is important to your visit, check the dates in advance, as the programme may change.
