Altlublau offers several historical highlights to help you plan your stay: Ľubovňa Castle, an open-air museum, a military exhibition and a burgher's house with an exhibition. When looking for a hotel in Altlublau, you can first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay. The main factors for planning your day are the duration of the visits, their different focuses and individual access conditions.

Castle and Open-Air Museum

Ľubovňa Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century. The visit is scheduled to take 80 minutes; you can join a guided tour or explore the castle independently using an accompanying text. A red-marked hiking trail leads to the castle from the centre of Stará Ľubovňa in about 30 minutes. The castle can also be reached by car. Before travelling, check the current visiting arrangements and the conditions for the route and access.

Below the castle is the Ľubovniansky skanzen, an open-air museum of folk architecture with 25 exhibits. A visit takes 45 minutes. By comparison, visiting the castle takes longer, at 80 minutes; these timings can help you schedule the visits throughout your day. Before travelling, check the visiting hours for the castle and skanzen. The open-air museum focuses on folk architecture, while the castle visit centres on the building and its history.

Michal Strenk Military Exhibition

The Michal Strenk Military Exhibition offers a different historical perspective. It features realistically constructed trenches, bunkers, artillery batteries and military equipment. It also commemorates those who fell in the Second World War and the involvement of local people in the anti-fascist resistance in the region and worldwide. The exhibition is located on Zámocká Street in Stará Ľubovňa, behind the skanzen grounds below the castle. Its focus on military installations, equipment and remembrance clearly distinguishes it from the ethnographic open-air museum.

Burgher's House and St. Nicholas Church

The Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana is housed in a historic burgher's house dating from the 17th century. Renaissance architectural elements, original barrel vaults and stucco decoration are among the building's features; the medieval cellars date from the 15th century. The exhibition includes an original black kitchen. Here, features of the burgher's house meet older cellars—a different architectural focus from the castle or open-air museum.

A visit to the Dom also includes a visit to St. Nicholas Church. The Roman Catholic parish church is a Gothic church dating from the late 13th century. Visits to its interior are organised by the tourist information centre. Before your visit, check the current arrangements and availability for visiting the church.

Cemetery and Architectural Details

A cemetery is home to a Neo-Gothic chapel dating from the early 20th century. The cemetery was reconstructed in 2001 and is enclosed along its entire perimeter. It is entered through a small building called Ciduk hadin. Figurative ornaments in the cemetery include lions and eagles. This provides another cultural and historical point of interest alongside the castle, museum and church. As physical access conditions may change, check access arrangements before visiting.
