The cadastral area of Drienica lies below the southern slopes of the Čergov Mountains and ranges in elevation from 375 to 1,068 m. Hiking trails, summer cycling options and historic sacred buildings offer different ways to plan your trip. As you prepare for your stay, you can first decide whether you would like to compare walking times and route profiles, explore the summer activities around Lysá, or learn about the history of the local buildings.

Landscape and Nature in the Čergov Mountains

Drienica has 601.78 ha of forest. Its cadastral area also lies within the Čergov Special Protection Area (CHVÚ Čergov), which covers 35,849.71 ha. The area protects habitats of bird species of European importance, as well as habitats of migratory bird species. This offers two ways to appreciate the area’s natural character: its elevation provides a setting for tours, while its protected status highlights bird habitats. If you do not plan your trip based solely on route lengths, you can also appreciate the protection of these habitats as a distinct aspect of the landscape.

Hiking Trails and Choosing a Route

If you are looking for a circular hike with a stated distance, consider the recommended Okruh Besná. The loop is 5.5 km long, with a listed walking time of 2:02 hours. This published walking time is an estimate, as terrain and the actual duration can vary. For a hike with named waypoints, the blue-marked trail 2845 crosses the cadastral area of the municipality of Drienica, running from Škola v prírode Drienica via Besná Saddle to Podbaranie. Check the current trail markings before setting out.

The green-marked trail 5708 runs from Sabinov via Červená Voda and Lysá to Čergov Saddle, then continues to Hertník. The descriptions emphasize different planning details: Okruh Besná is described by its loop, distance and walking time, while trail 5708 is described by its sequence of places. This lets you compare a circular route with a stated distance and estimated time against a route with named stops.

Summer Cycling Options

In summer, SKI LYSÁ offers mountain biking with chairlift access up to Lysá and across the peaks of the Čergov Mountains. The chairlift carries visitors and their bicycles, or visitors wearing trekking shoes, uphill. The offer is seasonal; lift operations and trail conditions may vary. Check the current lift operations and route conditions before your outing.

Another kind of cycling route is the cycle path along the Drienický potok Šomka. It is 946 m long and 2.5 m wide, illuminated and marked for traffic. This gives you different cycling options to consider: a path with specific dimensions and lighting, and summer mountain biking with chairlift access. Conditions on the cycle path may also change.

Sacred Buildings and Local History

The Chrám Narodenia Presvätej Bohorodičky was completed in 1811 and dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church has a single nave, with a projecting tower set into the gabled façade. The description thus identifies both its dedication and its distinctive architectural form.

The Kaplnka sv. Jána Evanjelistu was built in 1822 and extensively restored in 1998–1999. From 2000, the tradition of May liturgies, accompanied by the blessing of the fields, was revived there. If you would like to include this liturgy in your travel plans, ask locally whether it will take place during your stay.
