Busovce combines a historic town center with the river landscape where the Poprad and Biela meet. Churches from different periods, archaeological sites and regional Spiš lace offer further cultural points of interest. When planning your trip, you can therefore focus on local history, architecture, craft traditions or the rivers.

Town Center and Kúria

The historic town center follows a lens-shaped urban plan. This organic layout is itself part of the town’s history and adds context to its individual buildings. On the eastern edge of the historic center stands the Kúria: a late Baroque, single-story building with three wings, dating from the late 18th century. As a cultural monument, it comprises a residence and farm buildings. Its architecture can be understood through its period, form and the different parts of the complex.

Churches from Different Periods

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Lawrence the Deacon dates from the first half of the 14th century. It has an original Gothic stone baptismal font from the 14th century. The church also has three Late Gothic wooden sculptures dating from after 1520, which are closely associated with the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. The church’s construction date, baptismal font and sculptures offer different points of reference for art history.

The Evangelical church was built in 1818 in the eclectic style. Its historicist interior dates from the late 19th century and includes a folk-carved baptismal font from the 19th century. It is currently used for services once a year. If you plan to visit, check the date in advance.

Archaeology and Spiš Lace

South of Busovce lies Dvorské pole, an archaeological site with evidence from the Paleolithic, Bronze Age, Roman period, Middle Ages and modern era. Medzi lesmi is another archaeological site, with a medieval and modern-era settlement. The two sites cover different spans of time: Dvorské pole includes several widely separated periods, while Medzi lesmi is associated with settlement history from the Middle Ages and modern era.

Spiš lace also offers another perspective on regional culture. The traditional lace associated with Busovce was made in the areas around Levoča, Lomnička and Busovce, and was already known in the 17th century. This craft tradition adds a regional cultural dimension to the history of the area’s architecture and settlements.

The Poprad, the Biela and Fishing Stretches

Busovce lies at the confluence of the Poprad and its left tributary, the Biela. The historic Polish Gate, a former fortified border point near present-day Busovce, stood where the Biela flows into the Poprad. The regional Biocorridor of the Poprad also runs through the cadastral area.

The named fishing stretches also differ by waterway and type of fishing: the Poprad No. 5 grayling fishing stretch runs from the mouth of the Biela in Busovce to the mouth of the Čierny potok in Spišská Belá–Strážky. Biela No. 1 is a fishable trout stretch running from its mouth in Busovce to the TANAP boundary. If you want to fish, check current permits and seasonal regulations in advance.

Busovce lies on the main road from Spišská Belá to Podolínec. Spišská Belá is 4 km away and Podolínec is 6 km away. These distances provide reference points along this road connection and can help you plan your journey.
