Bánov brings together several different highlights for a stay: the Church of Kostol sv. Michala archanjela, Dom ľudových tradícií, Kaštieľ Manor House, and the Sihoť recreation area. Architectural and art history sit alongside folk collections, nature, and recreation. For planning, it is worth distinguishing between them: the church and manor house represent different architectural approaches, while Dom ľudových tradícií displays exhibits from several fields and Sihoť focuses on nature.

Church and Architectural History

The Church of Kostol sv. Michala archanjela was built in 1842 in the Neoclassical style. In 1928, it was given two side aisles with choir lofts, built in a similar Neoclassical style. This makes it possible to distinguish the original building from the later extension. Above the main altar is an altarpiece depicting Saint Michael the Archangel, created by Budapest painter Jozef Berky in 1860. The work was created between the construction of the church and its 1928 extension. The later extension takes up the Neoclassical style in a similar form, while the dated altarpiece adds a distinct artistic dimension. This sequence is informative for understanding sacred architecture: the construction date, artwork, and extension phase can be distinguished chronologically. The church’s name and the subject of the altarpiece both refer to Saint Michael the Archangel, revealing a thematic connection as well as a chronological one.

Folk Collection

Dom ľudových tradícií displays historical furniture, folk clothing, tools, paintings, and sacred and secular objects. Furniture, clothing, and tools offer a perspective grounded in everyday life; paintings and sacred and secular objects add artistic and other thematic perspectives. The collection thus offers a range of points of interest rather than focusing on just one type of exhibit. Guided tours of the exhibition, with expert commentary and a talk, can be arranged in advance.

Kaštieľ Manor House

Kaštieľ Manor House is located on the eastern edge of Bánov, with remnants of the original park around the building. It was built in the second half of the 19th century. It is an example of a distinctive form of Eclecticism, with predominantly Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architectural and artistic elements. Here, Eclecticism refers to the interplay of different stylistic influences; specifically, Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance elements are predominant. Compared with the Neoclassical church, two architectural approaches stand out: the church’s Neoclassical design and its later extension in a similar style, and the manor house’s combination of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance elements.

Nature and Recreation in Sihoť

Sihoť complements the architectural and collection-related attractions with nature and recreation. The recreation area offers beautiful views and is surrounded by varied natural scenery and bodies of water. Three information boards at the entrance to the area provide information about local fauna and flora. The area is suitable for recreation and leisure in every season. Sihoť is therefore an option for travelers who do not want to focus their stay solely on architectural history and exhibits; here, the emphasis is on nature and leisure throughout the year.
