Štós: Speleotherapy, Churches and Forest Park
Accommodation in Štós
Štós offers several distinct reasons to visit: speleotherapy at Kúpele Štós, historic churches and the forest park, as well as the POLNER CUP at Polnerová lúka. If you are looking for a hotel in Štós, the focus of your trip can help you choose. Consider whether a seven-day spa stay, cultural history or the event at Polnerová lúka is most important to your plans.
Speleotherapy, Vital Water World and Forest Park
Kúpele Štós offers a seven-day stay featuring speleotherapy. The program combines therapy in underground cave spaces with climate therapy. The duration provides a concrete point of reference for planning your trip. As program details may change, check them before making plans.
The Vital Water World at Kúpele Štós includes water and steam baths, herbal, eucalyptus and Finnish saunas, a vital rain shower, a water course, a hydromassage pool and a tepidarium. Access and available services may change, so ask about the conditions for your visit in advance.
The forest park at Kúpele Štós is designated a national cultural monument of Slovakia. It contains more than 200 species of trees and flowers; streams with cascades and a fountain complete the grounds. The grounds of Kúpele Štós also preserve original architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as from the interwar period, alongside a protected historic park. The landscape and architectural history thus stand side by side as distinct facets of the same site. Individual features may change over time; if a particular element is important to your plans, check its current condition in advance.
Churches and Museum Library
The Roman Catholic church in Štós is probably the oldest building in the village and was built in the second half of the 13th century. Its main altar was created in 1727 and features a painting of Saint John of Nepomuk. Construction of the Evangelical church began in 1786; it was consecrated on 28 September 1788. Its defining feature is an altar with an oil painting of Jesus Christ. The two churches can therefore also be distinguished by their construction and consecration histories.
The Zoltán Fábry Museum has a valuable library. If you plan to visit the museum as part of your stay, check the visitor arrangements separately.
POLNER CUP at Polnerová lúka
The POLNER CUP venue at Polnerová lúka lies on the northern side of Tupý vrch. It can be reached on foot from Štós in one to one and a half hours. Since 1984, the ski races held there to compete for the title of “Champion of Štós” have been called the POLNER CUP. Take the stated walking time into account if the event is important to your travel plans.
The POLNER CUP also involves a distinctive culinary tradition among participants: they cook scrambled eggs in cauldrons over an open fire and add various types of homemade sausage. This dish is associated with the sporting event. Together with the venue and walking time, it gives a concrete sense of which place and occasion might be at the center of your trip to Štós.
