Budimír lies in the Košice Basin, in the Torysa Valley, about 12 km from Košice. For travelers looking to give their stay a clear cultural focus, the manor house, historic park, churches and an exhibition of historic clocks shape the character of the village. Its historical points of interest span several eras: a pocket watch dates from 1630, while the churches’ building history and later alterations extend into the 20th century. When planning your visit, you can therefore weigh different interests—architecture, family history, park design or craftsmanship—instead of getting to know Budimír through just one building.

Manor House and Clock Collection

Budimír Manor House is a Neoclassical Theresian building dating from the second third of the 18th century. It served as the seat of the Ujházy family branch. It stands in a French-style park. The manor house has been closed to the public since November 13, 2024, until further notice. Check before traveling to see whether a reopening has been announced.

The exhibition of historic clocks focuses on the typological development of clock mechanisms and the artistic design of clock cases, from the beginning of the 18th century to the first third of the 20th century. Exhibits include brass wall clocks dating from 1760, from the workshop of Košice clockmaker Lehner, as well as French Boulle clocks from 1720. The “Nuremberg Egg” pocket watch from 1630 predates the beginning of this period of development. Portraits of the manor house’s owners from the Ujházy family also connect the collection with the house’s family history. Technical development, craftsmanship and the history of the manor house’s owners are thus brought together.

Historic Park and Churches

Budimír Park is a national monument, registered under number 413/5 in the Central Register of Monuments of the Slovak Republic. It is also an important public green space with historic and garden-architectural value. The park can therefore be considered a distinct part of the village’s cultural character, not just the setting for the manor house. The park has an accessible entrance; confirm the current access conditions before your visit.

The old Evangelical church of Budimír is located in the historic park. It dates from the late 18th century and was originally the crypt of the Evangelical Ujházy family branch. Information boards about the history of the municipality are located near the church; check locally before your visit to confirm their current condition. Budimír’s Roman Catholic church dates from the 15th century and was remodeled in the Neoclassical style in the 20th century. Comparing the two reveals distinct lines of development: the Evangelical church is particularly notable for its former family function, while the Catholic church brings together an early date of construction and a later change in style.

Other Historical Points of Interest

Another landmark is “Paradni dvor”: this compact historic complex of buildings stands on a raised terrace above Fišerovec. The Sýpka in the manor house grounds is a venue for antiques and curiosities fairs. Check before traveling to see whether an event is scheduled.
