Valentová: Wetlands and Horseback Riding
Accommodation in Valentová
Ranch Amadeus in Valentová offers accommodation with horseback riding experiences in the Turiec region. The offer includes up to five log cabins. Each has its own toilet and bathroom; as standard, it is set up for three people with two beds and an extra bed. Ranch Amadeus’s focus on horseback riding is one of several things that make Valentová distinctive: wetlands, cycling and hiking trails, and architectural history.
Wetlands and protected areas around Valentová
The Mokrade Turca Ramsar site also includes the cadastral area of Valentová. It has site number 932, was listed on February 17, 1998, and covers 750 hectares. Its significance includes representative or unique examples of natural and near-natural wetland types in the Western Carpathians. The area is also part of a migratory corridor for waterbirds. Its biodiversity is shaped by rare, vulnerable, and endangered plant and animal species.
The Mokrade Turca nature trail takes in a mosaic of wet meadows, marsh meadows, reed beds, sedge mires, floodplain forests, and thickets. The Turiec and Blatnický potok protected area also includes the cadastral area of Valentová. Its largely natural river course features meanders, side channels, shallow stretches, and deep pools. Floodplain forests, pastures, oxbow lakes, and seasonal pools are also part of this protected area. Together, the two areas offer different perspectives: Mokrade Turca is known for its varied wetland mosaic, while the Turiec and Blatnický potok also stand out for their varied river courses.
Distinguishing the nature trail from the cycling route
The 23-kilometer Mokrade Turca nature trail begins near Valentová. It passes through Ivančiná and Diviacke kruhy and ends at the Rakšianske rašelinisko peat bog. The trail is suitable for hikers and cyclists; it is easy to follow and can be used independently as a cycling route. It can be cycled in summer and winter, although surface conditions may vary by season. Check the conditions for the dates of your planned ride.
The Južný Turiec cycling route is a separate route. An older route description gives its total length as 38.5 kilometers and places Valentová at kilometer 25.5. If you plan to take this route, check the local signs and conditions beforehand. The kilometer markers help distinguish between two different options: the nature trail, which begins near Valentová, and the longer cycling route, which passes through Valentová.
Horseback riding at Ranch Amadeus
Ranch Amadeus offers lessons for beginners and advanced riders led by experienced riding instructors. Beginners can take guided walks on horseback in the riding arena. Experienced riders can go on rides in the surrounding countryside, ranging from one hour to multi-day horseback tours in the nearby mountains. The options therefore vary both in the experience required and in duration.
Those who would like to spend more time learning about horses can also take part in a structured program that provides full instruction in horse care, saddling, and working with horses. The summer riding camp includes hiking and both Western and English-style riding. When planning, you can therefore choose between a lesson, guided riding in the arena, a trail ride, or a longer program, without treating these as equivalent activities.
Neoclassical architecture and local food
The Kúria of Valentová is a neoclassical manor house dating from the early 19th century. A columned portico with three arcades projected from the main façade and was topped by a pediment. These architectural features give the building a distinctive character and add a cultural and historical aspect to the nature and horseback riding themes.
Ranch Amadeus also offers food: under the supervision of a butcher, an approximately 200-kilogram pig is used to prepare head cheese, sausages, liver sausages, and other dishes to order. When choosing what to explore on your trip, you can consider a range of themes: wetland landscapes, cycling and hiking trails, horseback riding, the Kúria, and the preparation of regional foods.
