Vlašky: History, Chapel and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Vlašky
In Vlašky, the history of the settlement, historic buildings and cycling routes through the village come together. The branch church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is located in Vlachy, in the village of Vlašky. This offers visitors different ways to experience the village: its historical traces, buildings with various functions and cycling activities.
The History of Vlašky
The settlement arose sometime around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, at the initiative of nobles from Vlachy. In historical records, Vlašky appears under the Hungarian name “Kysolazy,” meaning “Malé Vlachy” (“Little Vlachy”). Vlašky was first mentioned in 1391. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the village belonged to the noble Demkeovci family. Taken together, these details paint a picture of different historical layers: from its approximate founding period and early written mention to its later belonging to a noble family.
Chapel, Church and Mill Ruins
The Vlašky chapel was built in 1930 and no longer serves its original purpose. A new church right next to the chapel offers better conditions for ceremonies and religious services. If you would like to visit the chapel, it is best to check access in advance. This allows you to see the two religious buildings in their different present-day roles without conflating their functions.
Another historical point of interest is the remains of a former mill, located beside the road in Vlašky. These remains include a mill race. This part of the village is therefore about traces of a former mill, not a mill that is still operating. Together with the chapel, they offer different starting points for a walk through the village’s history.
Cycling Routes through Vlašky
Route TC01 is a circular mountain biking route that passes through Vlašky. It is classified as moderately difficult, with a difficulty level of 3. On the return leg, the route passes the historic building of the original railway stop in Vlašky. This circular route combines cycling with a tangible reminder of the area’s transport history. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The cycling route through the Dúbravská Valley also passes through Vlašky. When choosing between the routes described, TC01 offers several specific points of reference: it is a circular route designed for mountain bikes and has a moderate difficulty level. The other route is distinguished by its connection to the Dúbravská Valley. Both routes pass through the village; the features mentioned help distinguish between their descriptions.
Havránok as a Nearby Excursion Destination
The Havránok open-air archaeological museum is located near Vlašky. It lies on the shore of the Liptovská Mara reservoir, above the bell tower of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Reconstructions at the site include Celtic dwellings, fortifications with a gate, a pottery kiln and a place of sacrifice. Havránok is a separate nearby point of interest for anyone interested in archaeological reconstructions as well as the history of the village.
