Accommodation in Gotovany
Gotovany lies south of the Liptovská Mara reservoir and west of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. Its cadastral area ranges from 575 to 714 metres in elevation. This elevation range applies to the entire cadastral area and places the village in its regional context. Visitors can focus on a range of interests: fishing, local history and culture, as well as nearby attractions.
Reservoir, fishing grounds and shoreline landscape
The VN Gôtovany – Sokolčianska zátoka fishing ground is part of the Liptovská Mara reservoir. It is home mainly to carp and predatory fish. Before going fishing, check the conditions and regulations that apply to the specific fishing ground.
Gôtovanská zátoka has grassy shores lined with poplars, willows and alders. A description from 2009 identifies Gôtovanská zátoka near Gotovany as a dedicated carp fishing ground. The descriptions emphasize different features: the focus at Gôtovanská zátoka is on shoreline vegetation and carp fishing, while the VN Gôtovany – Sokolčianska zátoka fishing ground is noted for the fish groups found in the reservoir.
Archaeology and the history of the reservoir nearby
The open-air archaeological site of Havránok, with reconstructed Celtic buildings, is located near Gotovany. During the summer season, it hosts demonstrations of sword fighting, Celtic rituals and various crafts. An exhibition in the tower of the former Church of the Virgin Mary recalls historical connections with the reservoir. Visitors can therefore choose between two different nearby attractions: Celtic reconstructions and seasonal demonstrations at Havránok, or the church tower’s historical connection to the reservoir. If you plan to attend the demonstrations, check the summer-season dates.
Local history and community life
The Evangelical prayer house is one of the municipality’s most significant cultural and historical features, but it is not designated a national cultural monument. In the Fiačice district, there is a chapel in the municipal office. The present-day municipality of Gotovany and the district of Fiačice originated as two independent municipalities; in 1924, Fiačice was incorporated into Gotovany.
Local history is also connected to the construction of a dam in the Liptov region: when Mlynica was sacrificed for the project, the furnishings from the former Evangelical church in Mlynica were brought to Gotovany in 1960 for safekeeping. Local history thus extends beyond the development of the municipality to encompass the history of the region.
In 2025, Gotovany’s Community Day was the ninth edition and included a raffle with more than 80 prizes. Three teams competed in the halušky cooking contest. The 2024 Mikuláš event included a Christmas market with hot punch and homemade cakes. At one Mikuláš event, children from the local kindergarten put on a cultural programme for parents, seniors and other attendees. The municipal ball was held again in 2026 as a social evening and featured a photo booth. If an event is a specific reason for your trip, check the dates for your planned stay.
