Hradište Nature Reserve
The Hradište Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of the municipality of Kováčovce and protects Pannonian grass and herb communities on loess. It was designated in 1999 to protect several thermophilic, steppe-associated, protected and endangered plant and animal species. Protected and endangered species found in the area include the bladder senna (Colutea arborescens), yellow bluestem (Chrysopogon gryllus), Austrian flax (Linum austriacum), sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), European green lizard (Lacerta viridis) and praying mantis (Mantis religiosa). Nature conservation here encompasses both a specifically described habitat and plant and animal species.
Manor House, Church and Remembrance
Kováčovce is home to an 18th-century Rococo-Classicist manor house. It was altered in the 19th and 20th centuries, and these later changes are also part of its architectural history. The church dedicated to the Blessed Mother depicts the Nativity of the Virgin Mary: the child is surrounded by Saint Anne and Joachim and welcomed by angels. A memorial plaque to Fraňo Kráľ, erected in 2005, is located on the community centre. Architectural history, religious art and literary remembrance provide distinct cultural highlights here.
Equestrian Grounds, Competition and Excursions
The Kováčovce riding club has equestrian grounds with stables, a sand-surfaced practice course and a grassy paddock. The XXXIII edition of the Ipeľský pohár equestrian competition took place in Kováčovce on 4 June 2022; it was organised by JO Kováčovce. The club also welcomes preschool and schoolchildren on excursions where they learn about horse breeding, care and training. The grounds, competition and excursions represent different aspects of the local connection with horses: facilities, competition history and learning. If you are planning to attend a competition, check in advance whether an event date has been announced for your travel period.
Agriculture and Viticulture
Agriculture, vegetable growing and viticulture were practised in Kováčovce. Viticulture has remained the most important occupation to the present day. Together, these activities reflect the area’s broader agricultural character and the particular importance of viticulture in local work.
