Rimavské Janovce can be considered for travel planning through several specific features: its historic centre, declared a heritage zone in 1994, churches and manor houses, as well as connections to a tourist route and cycling paths. This allows you to take the townscape and architectural history into account, alongside the transport links described, when choosing a destination for your stay.

Historic Town Centre and Churches

The linear street layout of the heritage zone forms a small central square. The Roman Catholic and Calvinist churches are located there. Some houses in the heritage zone have preserved original stucco decorations from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Thus, both the street layout and details of individual houses form part of the historic townscape.

The Church of St. John the Baptist is a single-nave building dating from around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, with a semicircular apse. It is originally Romanesque and was a Benedictine monastery church. The church thus combines a clearly identified architectural form with its former function.

The Reformed Church dates from the early 14th century and is originally Gothic. Its wooden, flat coffered ceiling dates to 1792. In comparison with the Church of St. John, different dates stand out: the latter dates from around the turn of the 13th century, while this church has Gothic origins and a later ceiling.

Manor Houses and Distinctive Architectural Forms

The Törökovská manor house is a single-storey late Baroque building dating from 1800. Its rectangular floor plan, mansard roof and side pavilions provide several specific features by which to identify the building. Its age and architectural form can be considered together.

Another manor house is located at number 47. It is a single-storey, two-winged late Classicist building from the second half of the 19th century, also with a rectangular floor plan, but with a hipped roof. Compared with the Törökovská manor house, the differences lie in the architectural style, the stated construction period and the roof form: the 1800 building has a mansard roof and side pavilions, while the later two-winged building has a hipped roof.

Route, Transport and Surroundings

Rimavské Janovce is part of the Gotická cesta (Gothic Route) tourist route. The town is connected to Rimavská Sobota by road II/531 and a railway line for passenger and freight trains. If you plan to arrive by train, check the current timetable in advance.

The Kurinec Reservoir, a tourist attraction, is nearby and connected to Rimavské Janovce by a cycling path. A geothermal spring was discovered in the cadastral area of Rimavské Janovce in 2000; it is currently used in the Kurinec–Zelená voda recreation area. These details describe two different connections to the surrounding area: a cycling link to the reservoir and the use of the spring in the named recreation area.

A municipal plan from 2018 also proposed the Močiar–Rimavské Janovce cycling route. It was to be 1,519.69 metres long, starting at a bridge in the Močiar settlement and following an existing unpaved field track and the embankment along the Rimava. At the railway crossing in Rimavské Janovce, it was to connect to the road. The route was planned to run separately from the main road, protecting it from passenger cars and trucks. As this is a planned route, check its current status before setting out.
