Krná lies in the southern part of the Veporské Slovenské rudohorie, in the valley of the Krná stream. The destination is characterized by its wooded surroundings and hiking connections to Jasenina, as well as its architectural and local history. Its sights and trails offer different ways to enjoy your stay.

Location and Landscape

Deciduous forests grow around Krná. Land-use data for 2010 show that forests covered more than 59 percent of Krná’s cadastral area. This figure refers to the entire cadastral area. Krná also has a chestnut grove with around 20 sweet chestnut trees. One of them has a trunk circumference of 305 centimetres. If you like to take in landscapes at different scales, the sights range from the forest cover across the cadastral area to a single tree in the grove.

Buildings and Local History

The first written mention of Krná dates from 1435. The village’s oldest monument is a Neoclassical manor house dating from 1820. It was built on the site of a Renaissance manor house from the 17th century. Thus, two architectural periods come together at this site: the earlier Renaissance building and the Neoclassical manor house of 1820. The manor house has served as the cultural centre of the municipality of Krná since 1960. If you are planning a visit, check locally whether it is open to visitors.

The Evangelical church in Krná was solemnly consecrated on 22 October 1905 and built without a tower. According to the municipal description, it was the only towerless church in the Evangelical a. C. church district in Uhorské. An altarpiece by Ľudovít Kubányi was acquired for the church. The Krná–Závada bell tower was built in 1893 by residents of the scattered settlements of Krná.

The neighbourhoods also tell the story of the area’s architecture: traditional folk architecture has been preserved in Neklen, Závada, Osičiny, and Nový svet. The condition of the buildings may change over time. The area’s earlier history also includes the making of wooden wheels. This craft was widespread in Krná and practised in as many as 14 households. Alongside the buildings, a traditional craft forms another distinct part of the area’s history.
