Dudince: Mineral Springs and Historic Sites
For a hotel stay in Dudince, you can plan your trip around different interests: the history of the mineral waters, geological and historical attractions, a seasonal summer swimming pool, or a route through the landscape of historic Hont. Practical details can help you choose your travel dates. The summer swimming pool is seasonal, public access to the mineral pool at the Rubín spa house is available on Sundays, and transfers to the spa house must be booked in advance.
Mineral Springs, Travertine and Notable Sites
The mineral waters of Dudince were first officially mentioned in writing in 1777. At the time, they were described as warm healing springs called Gyogy. The year marks the first official written reference to these mineral waters.
The Travertínová terasa covers 1,433 m² on the banks of the Štiavnica. Several sites of active travertine formation can be found there under relatively natural conditions. Both the area and the geological process are part of the site.
The Rímske kúpele, also known as Močidlá, are an extensive spring mound with a flat surface. Thirty-two square and rectangular pits have been carved into it. Those interested in geological and historical sites will find a specific detail here that differs from the Travertínová terasa: the shape of the spring mound and its pits.
Another landmark, known as the “leaning tower,” remains a tourist attraction because of its unusual tilt. It is 51 centimetres out of plumb.
Baths and Seasonal Planning
Dudinka summer swimming pool is a seasonal family facility with four pools and water attractions. Its features include a water slide, a family slide, a water channel with jets and a children’s area. The swimming pool also has a relaxation pool filled with Dudince healing water, with a temperature of 33 to 34 °C. Check the seasonal opening, current temperature and facilities before your trip.
The Rubín spa house has a 34 °C relaxation pool with mineral water. The mineral pool is also open to the public on Sundays; check public access before planning a visit. The pools are similar in temperature. For planning purposes, their main difference is when they can be visited: Dudinka is seasonal, while the mineral pool at the Rubín spa house is open to the public on Sundays.
Routes, Bikes and Getting There
The Lišovská trasa leads from Dudince along the forest. It is part of the Zlatá cesta landscape in historic Hont, which includes natural and cultural heritage sites. If you plan to cycle the route, check the route conditions and surface in advance.
The Dudince Tourist Information Centre rents electric bikes, bicycles and scooters. If one of these options is important to your plans, confirm availability in advance.
Kúpele Dudince can take guests directly from the railway station or a bus stop to the spa house. You must arrange the transfer at the reception of the respective spa house no later than one day in advance. Confirm this arrangement before you arrive.
