Osrblie offers two distinct themes to explore: biathlon and evidence of its church and ironworking history. The National Biathlon Centre is the focus for sports, while the church, blast furnace remains and traditional wooden houses represent different historical themes. The surrounding area also has hiking trails leading to wells and springs. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth deciding first whether you want to focus on biathlon, local history or a hiking-oriented exploration.

Biathlon in Osrblie

The Osrblie National Biathlon Centre is part of the municipality of Osrblie and offers year-round training facilities for active athletes, amateurs and the wider sports-interested public. It hosts national Viessmann Cup competitions throughout the year, as well as international competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union. The programme includes both classic winter biathlon and summer biathlon. The sporting activities are therefore not limited to a single season, although the dates of individual competitions vary. If you want to plan your trip around a competition, check the date of the relevant event in advance.

The centre has two running routes, including a four-kilometre loop across meadows and through spruce forests. The four kilometres refer to a loop, not a one-way route from A to B. Route details may change with future expansions. If the exact route is important for your plans, check the latest information before your visit. Unannounced movement and training are prohibited on the centre grounds. Do not plan to exercise or train there without prior arrangement; instead, confirm the applicable access procedures before you arrive.

The Church and the History of Tri Vody

The Roman Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a religious monument in Osrblie. The church was converted from an older religious building in 1935 and contains a wooden sculpture of the Madonna and Child dating from the second half of the 15th century. The sculpture’s date and the later renovation mark different historical layers of the church: the artwork is from the Late Middle Ages, while the structural alteration took place in the 20th century.

Another aspect of local history can be seen at the Tri Vody site. The remains of a charcoal-fired blast furnace built in 1795 recall Osrblie’s significant ironworking history. Tri Vody is about a 45-minute walk south of Osrblie along an asphalt road. The approximate walking time gives you a practical reference for planning; the blast furnace also represents a different historical theme from the religious monument in the village.

Folk Architecture, Hiking Trails and Landscape

Osrblie’s original folk architecture, with its picturesque wooden houses, is also of interest to visitors. Access conditions may change, so check the latest information before your visit. This aspect highlights traditional building styles, while the blast furnace remains illustrate ironworking. Members of the Osrblie Volunteer Fire Brigade erected a cross on the summit of Štompová skala in memory and as a symbol of protection from the destructive power of nature. Remembrance and protection are therefore both part of its significance.

In the area around Osrblie, hiking trails lead to wells and springs. As another nature-related point of reference, Osrblie is included in the cadastral coverage of the Poľana Natura 2000 site. Alongside biathlon and architectural and industrial heritage, hiking trails and the landscape are also worth considering when choosing the focus of your stay.
