Bazoșu Nou in Timiș County combines nature-related attractions with local history and some cultural features. The Bazoș Arboretum is a particular highlight; information about the settlement’s founding, the church, and the Ruga satului adds historical and cultural perspectives.

Bazoș Arboretum and Landscape

The Bazoș Arboretum covers 62 ha and is located in the Bazoșu Nou area. Its collection comprises 776 taxa, including 231 conifer species. Taxa refers to taxonomic units; the number of conifer species is a quantified subset of the overall collection. The Bazoș dendrological park comprises Parcul Mare, Parcul American, and several nurseries for cultivating exotic species.

The arboretum lies on the flat plain of the Timiș and Bega rivers at an elevation of 95–97 m. Since 1994, Bazoș dendrological park has been designated a protected area to safeguard the biodiversity of the gene pool and ecological pool.

The park is home to an oak described as the oldest in Timiș County. It is said to be more than 500 years old; according to the information provided, its circumference is 6 m and its height is 30 m.

The route from Timișoara to the dendrological park passes through Rudicica, Urseni, Moșnița Nouă, Moșnița Veche, and Bucovăț. Access to the arboretum is also served by Remetea Mare railway station, as well as the DN6 national road (Timișoara–Remetea Mare) and the Remetea Mare–Bucovăț–Bazoșu Nou county road. Check road conditions and the timetable for your train connection before your trip. The two descriptions differ in how specifically they support trip planning: Traseu 5 is identified by its 21 km length and intermediate points; the route from Timișoara to the park can be followed using the sequence of places it passes through.

Local History and Culture

Bazoșu Nou was founded in 1926, when 26 families from Transylvania settled there. Their place of origin is specified more precisely as Tălmăcel in the municipality of Tălmaciu, near Sibiu. The village was called Határpuszta in Hungarian; it was also known as “Colonia Hotar.”

The “Cuv. Paraschiva” church in Bazoșu Nou was built in 1961. It was therefore established well after the settlement was founded in 1926.

The date given for the Ruga day in Bazoșu Nou is October 14. At the 2023 edition of Ruga satului at the Bazoșu Nou cultural center, authentic folk music, local dances, and traditional clothing were presented. If you would like to plan your trip around a cultural event, check the latest event dates in advance.
