Discover Homorâciu: Church, Village Museum and Iazul Dorului
Accommodation in Homorâciu
Homorâciu brings together different travel interests: architectural history at the Biserica „Adormirea Maicii Domnului“, a village museum in a 19th-century house, other historically dated houses, and an archaeological site. The Cetatea La Tène de la Homorâciu – La Cetăţuie also extends across Drajna de Sus. At Iazul Dorului, visitors can fish and keep their catch, relax, and buy fresh fish. Historic buildings and activities at the pond thus stand as distinct highlights; when planning your trip, you can decide which of them matters to you.
Church and architectural history
The Biserica „Adormirea Maicii Domnului“ in Homorâciu is a monument of national architectural significance. It was built in 1743–1744; its side apses were added in 1877. The dates mark two separate building phases: the first period refers to the construction, while 1877 marks a later addition. The Biserica Veche din Homorâciu is dedicated to „Adormirea Maicii Domnului“. Its massive walls are made of stone, bricks and roof tiles; they range in thickness from 40 centimetres to one metre. The chronology and architectural features offer different points of reference if you are interested in the church. If you would like to see its interior, check access arrangements in advance.
Village museum and 19th-century houses
Casa Dumitru Ionescu dates from the first half of the 19th century and is now the village museum. This place thus brings together a historical date and a present-day museum function. If you are planning a museum visit, check visiting arrangements in advance.
Casa Anghel Ciocea dates from the late 19th century. Compared with Casa Dumitru Ionescu, it therefore represents a later period of the same century. Together with the church, whose construction is dated to 1743–1744, it offers a chronology spanning from the 18th to the late 19th century. To help you place the buildings in their historical context, the dated church and houses from different periods of the 19th century can be considered side by side.
Archaeological site
The archaeological site Cetatea La Tène de la Homorâciu – La Cetăţuie extends across Homorâciu and Drajna de Sus. Its name includes Homorâciu, but Drajna de Sus is also part of the site’s area. This cross-settlement extent is important when interpreting the name geographically: the site is not associated with Homorâciu alone.
Fishing and getting there
Fresh fish can be bought at Iazul Dorului; fishing with the catch kept and relaxation are also offered. Fishing and buying fish are different options at the same named location. If you would like to fish, check seasonal availability before your trip. Fish stocks and sales arrangements may also change. This lets you plan fishing and buying fresh fish separately.
Homorâciu railway station is served by railway line 306 between Ploieşti and Măneciu. If you are considering taking the train, check the current timetable and the specific connections for your travel day. The line number identifies the rail connection but does not replace checking the actual train times for your trip.
