Viișoara: Monastic History and River Landscapes
Accommodation in Viișoara
Viișoara lies on national road DN15, close to the Bistrița River. The locality includes parts of the foothills of Mount Simon, as well as the Bistrița Valley on the left side of the old riverbed. The road layout also tells the story of the locality’s development: during the interwar period, land development work gave Viișoara a square layout, with roads arranged symmetrically along the north–south and east–west axes, intersecting one another.
Churches and monasteries in Viișoara
The parish church of Viișoara is dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helena and was consecrated in 2010. Its iconostasis was crafted from oak and walnut, and the icons were painted at Agapia Monastery. The furnishings thus bring together craftsmanship in two types of wood and painting from Agapia. Historically, Viișoara was under the spiritual care of Bistrița Monastery; parishioners made the six-kilometre journey there. This former connection places the local church history in a broader spiritual context.
The Benedictine Monastery of Maica Unității is also located in Viișoara. Its construction was completed in 2003, and it was consecrated on 29 June 2003. Benedictine nuns who follow the Rule of Saint Benedict live at the monastery. Its construction history and monastic life give this place a different historical and spiritual point of reference from the parish church.

Bisericani Monastery was founded between 1508 and 1512 by Bogdan III on the foundations of an earlier wooden church. From the 16th to the 19th century, it was one of the major monasteries in this part of the country. The Scăricica viewpoint offers views across the entire Bistrița Valley and over Piatra Neamț. From national road DN15 between Piatra Neamț and Bicaz, the Viișoara–Bisericani county road leads to the viewpoint; from there, the road continues through the forest to Bisericani Monastery. Check the condition of the forest road before setting out.

Near Viișoara, Lake Pângărați is part of a system of nine reservoirs along the Bistrița. The system is designated as a special protection area and provides a habitat for numerous migratory bird species.
