During a stay in Bodești, you can focus on three different interests: church architecture in individual villages of the commune, archaeological landscapes, and the wider regional geography. The localities within the commune have different historical and landscape features. This can help you define the purpose of your trip more precisely.

Churches and Architectural History in the Commune

The wooden church of Sfântul Ioan Bogoslov stands in the village of Corni; it dates from 1730 to 1734. Its preserved decorations include roof corbels carved in the shape of horses’ heads, twisted columns, and trefoil-shaped arcades at the porch. A trefoil is a three-part, cloverleaf-like shape. This makes it possible to distinguish figurative carving, column shapes, and arch forms in a building.

The church of Sfinții Voievozi in Bodeștii de Jos offers a different historical date; it dates from the 17th century. The two churches thus represent different building periods: the church in Bodeștii de Jos is assigned to the 17th century, while the wooden church in Corni dates from 1730 to 1734. Four sites in the commune of Bodești are included in the List of Historic Monuments in Neamț County as monuments of local interest.

Archaeological Landscape and Relief

The archaeological settlement of Cetățuia Frumușica lies 1.5 kilometers south of Bodeştii de Jos, on a 20-meter-high terrace on the left bank of the Cracău. It consists of two plateaus, generally oriented from northwest to southeast. A slight depression lies between them, which may have been a prehistoric ditch. The depression may therefore have served such a function; this interpretation is explicitly uncertain. The archaeological settlement of Strâmbi in the commune of Bodești has also been dated: it is assigned to the 15th to 17th centuries.

Geography and Orientation

The Corni Hill is a separate point of reference for the wider landscape. It is part of the Moldavian Subcarpathians, is 603 meters high, and lies between the Bălțătești saddle and the Cracău Valley. The commune of Bodești lies on the banks of the Cracău. These details describe different points of orientation: the ridge, the commune’s location by the river, and the archaeological site on the left bank.
