Glod in Romania’s Maramureş region offers a particularly tangible reason to stay: a wooden church, traditional textile work and marked trails in the Slătioara Valley. If you are looking for a hotel for these destinations, check the exact address of any listing. The catalogue page itself does not confirm a specific hotel in Glod, nor does it verify available rooms or prices.

Wooden Church and Landscape

The wooden church “Sfântul Nicolae” is listed as a historic monument under registration number MM-II-m-A-04581, with a construction date of 1700. According to local tradition, it was built by a group of itinerant craftsmen from Moldavia. It is a cultural landmark of the village, but its monument status does not indicate current opening hours or guided tours. Check current information before planning an interior visit.

Glod lies in the upper Slătioara Valley, northwest of Măgura Mare in the volcanic Țibleș range. The river flows into the Iza between Strâmtura and Bârsana. This information helps locate the village. It does not establish a particular travel time to other villages or guarantee access to every point in the landscape.

Hiking and Cycling from Glod

A 3.6-kilometre hiking trail, marked with a red dot on a white background, connects Glod via the Slătioara Valley with Izvorul Cald and Borcut. Another route, also 3.6 kilometres long and marked with a red cross on a white background, follows the valley to Șaua Măgura Glodului. The same distance does not mean the routes or destinations are the same. A longer route to Biserica Dracilor and the summit of Măgura Glodului is described as approximately ten kilometres and four to five hours.

A cycling loop is also described: it runs 11.5 kilometres from Glod through the Slătioara Valley and Șaua Măgura Glodului to Poienile Izei and back. Compare your planned activity with your hotel’s location, and check current trail markings, terrain and weather before setting out. A historical route description is not a substitute for a current safety assessment.

Crafts and Mineral Springs

Glod is associated with textile work: țoluri, pănură for winter clothing and cergi are woven here. Cergi and pănură are fulled in water-powered fulling mills over many hours. Twelve such mills were documented in 2017; at the time, they were also used to wash carpets and raw wool. This figure should not be read as the current number of active mills. The traditional production of decorated sheepskin coats is also described. A visit to a workshop must be arranged or confirmed in advance.

Southwest of the village, near the road to Feredeauă, there is a sulphurous, carbonated borcut with travertine deposits. Mineral springs in the area were formerly used for empirical balneotherapy. This does not imply that spa treatments are currently available or that the springs have any medical effect. Glod is also the home village of the Petreuș brothers, regarded as representatives of Maramureș folk song; local events have featured their repertoire.

Choosing a Hotel for Your Visit

Choose your search radius based on your main interest. Comuna Strâmtura is the wider administrative area, but a hotel found there may not be in Glod. So check the address, travel arrangements and booking conditions for the specific listing before linking trails or cultural destinations with your accommodation.
