If you are looking for a hotel in Vălișoara, this thematic overview provides a framework for choosing your stay.

Hilly Landscape and Historical Connections

The commune of Vălișoara and its affiliated villages are considered Romanian hill settlements; geographically, they belonged to Țara Zarandului. Vălișoara is mentioned in a document from 1506. From 1512 to 1517, Vălișoara and Stoieneasa were part of the inner appurtenances of the castle estate, known as the “Pertinențele Căian.” These dates answer different questions: 1506 marks the mention of Vălișoara in a single document, while 1512 to 1517 refers to a longer period during which Stoieneasa, as well as Vălișoara, belonged to the appurtenances.

The Dealu Mare archaeological site lies on a prominent limestone outcrop overlooking the surrounding area. Here, a specific geographical feature and an archaeological connection come together, while the historical dates offer other glimpses into the commune’s past.

Crafts and Traditional Products

Traditional crafts in the commune include sculpture and the making of various wooden objects. These two areas give the subject of craftsmanship a concrete form. In connection with “Vălișoara Tradițională,” honey, plum brandy and various baked goods made according to old recipes were promoted as traditional products of the commune. Thus, craft activities sit alongside food products and recipes as distinct aspects of local culture.

Past Events and Their Activities

The fourth edition of “Vălișoara Tradițională” took place on September 21 and 22, 2024. This edition featured creative workshops, and traditional costumes and old objects were also exhibited. The “Datina” group performed for the first time as part of the event, helping revive the community’s local customs. The creative workshops were a different type of program from the exhibitions: the former focused on creative activities, while the latter presented costumes and objects.

Food was also presented at the 2024 edition: it included traditional dumplings, cakes, bread, jams, Virșli and sausages. Thus, alongside workshops and exhibitions, the program included a dedicated presentation of food. “Vălișoara Tradițională” was scheduled to take place in Vălișoara on September 14, 2025.

Another event was the sixth edition of “Toamna Bicicliștilor.” It was scheduled for September 22, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m. in Dealu Mare, Vălișoara commune, as part of the Hunedoara County Cup #9. The dates differ: “Vălișoara Tradițională” took place over two days, while “Toamna Bicicliștilor” was scheduled to begin at a specific time on September 22.
