Rojiște offers several clearly distinct points of interest for a stay: historic churches, an archaeological site on the Jiu floodplain, and the Hotel Plaza Lake complex. The themes range from individual buildings and archaeological sites to two villages and a specific complex in Rojiște.

Churches and archaeological site

The “Sfântul Nicolae” Church in Rojiște is listed as a historic monument dating from 1780. In Tîmburești, a village in the commune of Rojiște, stands the “Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul” Church, dating from the early 19th century. The dates can be compared directly: 1780 on one side, and a classification as early 19th century on the other. The place names are also important for orientation: the churches are in two different localities, Rojiște and Tîmburești.

Another historic point of interest is the archaeological site “Situl arheologic de la Rojişte - Oaga Vijoii”. It lies about 600 metres south of the edge of Rojiște, on the right-hand side of the Craiova–Bechet road (DN55), on the upper terrace of the Jiu floodplain. The distance is approximate and is measured from the edge of the locality; the road and river terrace provide additional geographical context. Thus, alongside the churches, archaeological remains form a distinct part of the local cultural landscape.

DN55 and getting around the commune

The DN55 national road passes through Rojiște and connects Craiova with the Danube port of Bechet. Within the commune, it also connects the villages of Rojiște and Tîmburești. These are two scales of the same road connection: the link between the two local villages and the route between Craiova and Bechet. Rojiște refers both to a locality and to the commune to which Tîmburești belongs.

The Jiu and the landscape

The territory of Rojiște commune is bounded to the west by the Jiu River. The archaeological site, in turn, lies on the upper terrace of the Jiu floodplain. The Jiu is therefore a point of reference both for the commune’s boundary and for the landscape setting of the archaeological site. In addition, Rojiște is listed as accounting for 3% of the area division of the ROSPA0023 Confluenţa Jiu - Dunăre bird protection area. This protected-area designation adds a distinct landscape aspect to the churches and archaeological remains.

Hotel Plaza Lake

The Hotel Plaza Lake complex in Rojiște includes a lake with a pontoon and island, tennis, football and beach volleyball courts, saltwater baths, an indoor swimming pool, and a spa. This brings specific leisure and bathing facilities into view alongside the historic sites. Check the availability of individual facilities before travelling. For choosing what suits you, the distinction between indoor and outdoor facilities is particularly helpful: the lake with its pontoon and island contrasts with the indoor swimming pool.
