A multimedia exhibition on the city’s history, museums with diverse focuses, and green spaces with their own distinctive features: Sfântu Gheorghe offers a range of themes to consider when planning your trip. You can combine cultural history, archaeology and nature exhibitions with time outdoors and a seasonal cultural market.

Museums and Cultural History

Casa cu Arcade houses a permanent multimedia monographic exhibition about the history of Sfântu Gheorghe, the city’s cultural life and various historical events. The exhibition offers an introduction to local history and its cultural themes.

The Székely National Museum offers further historical perspectives. The main building and the park have reopened to visitors after renovation; check the current visitor arrangements before your visit. The exhibition “Geniile din spatele eroilor” explores the role of the Three Seats in the 1848–1849 War of Independence. Topics include the organization of self-defence, the war industry and cannon casting. A different perspective is offered by the permanent exhibition “Dna Cserey – 200,” about Emília Cserey Zathureczky, her museum work and her cultural contributions.

The National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians presents the archaeological exhibition “Așezarea preistorică Păuleni-Ciuc „Dâmbul Cetății“”. It is located at 16 Gábor Áron Street in Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna County. Since exhibition arrangements may change, it is advisable to check before your visit.

The Székelyland Public Hunting Collection is another of the city’s diverse collection themes. It is housed in Casa Bene, a historic listed building constructed in 1914 and renovated in 2013. The Székelyland Hunting Exhibition includes more than 500 hunting trophies. The range of exhibitions therefore extends from city history and archaeology to an extensive trophy collection.

Parks and Nature Themes

Elisabeta Central Park is the largest park in Sfântu Gheorghe. Shaded paths run alongside a small lake with water lilies; the park also has a maze and a playground. This means that within the same grounds, you can choose between waterside paths and other landscaped areas. If you want to divide your stay between exhibitions and time outdoors, you can plan the park as a separate activity.

The Una cu Natura–Vadon Visitor Centre in Șugaș-Băi introduces a range of habitats: meadows, alpine pastures, forests, aquatic habitats and peat bogs. You can explore the exhibitions using 3D models, interactive panels and sound effects. The centre’s subject matter thus ranges from open landscapes to wetlands; its interactive features offer a different approach from the city’s historical exhibitions.

Cultural Market and Bicycle Hire

Târg de Toamnă takes place every year in Piața Libertății in Sfântu Gheorghe and usually lasts for a weekend. The market showcases traditional products and harvest produce. The programme also includes demonstrations of traditional crafts and cooking demonstrations. Dates and themes vary from year to year; check the dates for your travel period if you want to include the market in your plans.

Since 2013, Sfântu Gheorghe has also hosted pulzArt, a contemporary art festival that promotes new ways of thinking about art. If you would like to experience the festival, check the dates relevant to your trip.

For bicycle planning, Sepsi Bike, Sfântu Gheorghe’s bicycle rental system, is another option to consider. It launched in 2024 with 120 bicycles and operates seasonally. Check in advance whether the service will be available during your stay.
