Plan a visit to Cuza Voda around nature and local history. Iezer Lake is of natural origin; the Iezerul Călărași protected area, a cycle-tourism route, and specific memorial sites offer different thematic focuses.

Natural Environment and Birdlife

The Iezerul Călărași Nature Reserve has been protected as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention since July 2012. A description from September 2023 classifies it as a lowland wetland and lists open water areas, waterways, lakes, marshes, reed beds, meadows, and agricultural land. According to this description, the area provided migratory and passage birds, including rare and legally protected species, with conditions for breeding, foraging, and staying. These different functions make the protected area an interesting habitat for birds.

The September 2023 description identifies the Natura 2000 site ROSPA0051 Iezerul Călărași as a special protection area for birds located within the administrative boundaries of the commune of Cuza Vodă (21 percent), the city of Călărași (15 percent), and the commune of Grădiștea (2 percent). A cycle-tourism route runs in the immediate vicinity of the area. This means that, alongside interest in the wetland and birdlife, there is also a distinct connection to cycling trips.

Local History and Memorial Sites

The village of Cuza Vodă originated with a land grant to peasants that began in 1899. The “Biserica Sf. Ioan Botezătorul” church in Cuza Vodă was built between 1907 and 1914 and painted in 1912. The year it was painted therefore falls within the stated construction period. The land grant and the church construction provide two distinct points of reference in the village’s history.

The memorial plaque “Monumentul eroilor căzuţi în Al Doilea Război Mondial” commemorates 128 people who fell in the 1944–1945 war. The monument of the same name consists of a white marble slab on a four-tiered plinth; its edges are decorated with vegetal and floral motifs. Commemoration and design come together here: the inscription recalls specific fallen people and years of war, while the material, plinth, and ornamentation define the monument’s form.

Road Connections at the Commune Level

The commune level is important for understanding the area’s geography. National road DN3 runs through the commune of Cuza Vodă and connects Călărași with Bucharest. County road DJ306 branches off near Ceacu, crosses the commune northward to Dragoș Vodă, and joins DN3A there. This distinguishes the connections between Călărași and Bucharest, on the one hand, from the northern road connection via Dragoș Vodă, on the other.

Summer Event and Hotel Choice

“Zilele Comunei Cuza Vodă” takes place every year in summer. If you want to plan your trip specifically around this event, check the exact event dates before setting your travel dates. This helps distinguish the recurring summer period from the schedule for the particular year.

When planning your hotel stay, you can weigh nature, local history, and the event as different reasons to travel. First decide which themes you want to shape your stay and when you would like to travel. You can then search for hotels in Cuza Voda to suit your travel dates and personal requirements.
